Liturgy of the Word

First Reading

A prepared child comes to takes the first reading or second reading..

The first reading today is taken from the book of Wisdom 1:13-15, 2:23-24a. It tells us that God is sad when we are sad and wants to help us.  He created us to be happy and live forever just like him.  It is the devil who brought unhappiness into the world.

 Wisdom 1:13-15

13 God did not invent death, and when living creatures die, it gives him no pleasure. 14 He created everything so that it might continue to exist, and everything he created is wholesome and good. There is no deadly poison in them. No, death does not rule this world, 15 for God's justice does not die.

Wisdom 2:23-24

23 When God created us, he did not intend for us to die; he made us like himself. 24 It was the Devil's jealousy that brought death into the world, and those who belong to the Devil are the ones who will die.

“This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Leader, Silently say:” Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel. Then start with:

The Lord be with You,

AND with your Spirit

Gospel Reading: The Gospel reading is from the book of ... Mark 5:21-24, 35-43

And at the end, say “The Gospel of the Lord” and all repeat “Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ

Mark 5:21-24

Jairus' Daughter but the part of a Woman Who Touched Jesus' Cloak is skipped.

21 Jesus went back across to the other side of the lake. There at the lakeside a large crowd gathered around him. 22 Jairus, an official of the local synagogue, arrived, and when he saw Jesus, he threw himself down at his feet 23 and begged him earnestly, “My little daughter is very sick. Please come and place your hands on her, so that she will get well and live!”

24 Then Jesus started off with him. So many people were going along with Jesus that they were crowding him from every side. Mark 5:35-43

35 While Jesus was saying this, some messengers came from Jairus' house and told him, “Your daughter has died. Why bother the Teacher any longer?”

36 Jesus paid no attention to[a] what they said, but told him, “Don't be afraid, only believe.”37 Then he did not let anyone else go on with him except Peter and James and his brother John. 38 They arrived at Jairus' house, where Jesus saw the confusion and heard all the loud crying and wailing. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this confusion? Why are you crying? The child is not dead—she is only sleeping!”

40 They started making fun of him, so he put them all out, took the child's father and mother and his three disciples, and went into the room where the child was lying. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha, koum,” which means, “Little girl, I tell you to get up!”

42 She got up at once and started walking around. (She was twelve years old.) When this happened, they were completely amazed. 43 But Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone, and he said, “Give her something to eat..

 The Gospel of the Lord”

Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ

(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the Gospel reflection:

   ====  7:24 - 7:27 ====

It tells about a man named Jairus who had a daughter who was dying.  The doctors had already given up.  Jairus was very worried and decided to ask Jesus to help.  Jairus had a lot of faith in Jesus.  He believed that Jesus could help his daughter.  When Jesus and Jairus came to the little girl, she had already died.  Jesus told the people that she was asleep but they laughed at him.  Jairus believed Jesus and Jesus was able to help his little girl.

Let’s pretend that you are part of Jairus’ family.  You are sad because the little girl is dying.  Imagine how you will feel when Jesus comes because Jairus believes so much.  You might feel that this strange man <Jesus> is a little bit crazy because you know that the girl is dead.  But imagine how you would feel when you see her get up and begin to eat.

Our Lord is able to do much more than we ever imagined.

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,

creater of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

                  --bow down--

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

was crucified, died and was buried:

He descended into hell:

The third day he rose again from the dead:

He ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Spirit:

the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting.

Amen.

Prayer of the Faithful

Now is the time to pray for our stuff :-)Intercessions You may want to ask the children to offer their own prayers or you can use the suggestions below.

God loves us enough to send Jesus to show us how to live and to share his love with us, and so we have the courage to pray together:

Prayer 1 We pray for the Church throughout the world: that it may be a shining example of true faith in Christ, who teaches us to heal the broken hearted.... We pray to the Lord…

Prayer 2 We pray for ourselves here to be humble at all time especially when our Parents, Teachers, Adults tell us to be careful... We pray to the Lord…

Prayer 3We pray for our parish, family and friends: that we may not be afraid to give a helping hand in our faith, and that we may show our faith in all that we do, by treating other people with love, respect and kindness.   We pray to the Lord….

Prayer 4. Patient and loving God, fill us with faith like Jairus, and guide us to share this faith with others through all that we do. We pray to the Lord….

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

One God, for ever and ever.

Amen
