Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?
AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the old testament book of Wisdom 11:22-12:2

Explain:  Compared to God, we are tiny, tiny creatures.  But he created us and he always loves us. The Book of Wisdom uses some beautiful language to describe the world as it compares to God.  Listen closely and see if you can hear it.

A prepared child comes and takes the first reading or second reading.

The first reading is from the old book of

Wisdom 11:22-12:2 (GNT)

22 In your sight the whole world is a grain of sand, barely heavy enough to tip a pair of scales, a drop of dew on the ground in the morning. 23 You are powerful enough to do anything, but you are merciful to everyone; you overlook our sins and give us time to repent. 24 You love everything that exists; you do not despise anything that you have made. If you had not liked it, you would not have made it in the first place. 25 How could anything last, if you did not want it to? How could it endure, if you had not created it? 26 You have allowed it all to exist, O Lord, because it is yours, and you love every living thing.
12 Your immortal spirit is in every one of them, and so you gently correct those who sin against you. You remind them of what they are doing, and warn them about it, so that they may abandon their evil ways and put their trust in you, Lord.
This is the word of the Lord
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask:  What did the author of Wisdom say when he compared the world to God?  <that the world was a speck of dust too light to weigh on a scale, that it disappears like a drop of the morning dew>  Compared to the power of God almighty, the earth is not very important even though it seems very large and important to us.

Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< I will praise your name forever, my king and my God...….>3x.

Introduce the Gospel

Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Luke.  (Lk 19:1-10). Luke tells us about a time that Jesus was teaching in a town.  When Jesus taught, he had to get food from somewhere.  He often had dinner with people he met.  At that time, the Jews were very careful who they ate with. They only ate with people that they thought were good Jews.  This story is about a man named Zacchaeus. He was not a good Jew.  He was a very rich man who made his money working for the Roman people.  No one liked him.  Pretend you are in the crowd of people that Jesus was teaching and see if you can learn what happened.
Let us Welcome the Gospel
..with Alleluia!! - OR
Welcome the Gospel through a song.
Chorus:
Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah! Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah! Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!!!
Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
AND with your Spirit.

A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke

Glory to You, O Lord

Luke 19:1-10(GNT)
Jesus and Zacchaeus
19 Jesus went on into Jericho and was passing through. There was a chief tax collector there named Zacchaeus, who was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was a little man and could not see Jesus because of the crowd. So he ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus, who was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to that place, he looked up and said to Zacchaeus, “Hurry down, Zacchaeus, because I must stay in your house today.”
Zacchaeus hurried down and welcomed him with great joy. All the people who saw it started grumbling, “This man has gone as a guest to the home of a sinner!”
Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Listen, sir! I will give half my belongings to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay back four times as much.”
Jesus said to him, “Salvation has come to this house today, for this man, also, is a descendant of Abraham. 10 The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
  ====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the
Gospel reflection:
Ask:  So what happened?  <discuss>  Zacchaeus did not claim to be an important man.  He honoured Jesus and did his best to become a better person.  Zacchaeus was a short man but because he listened and followed Jesus, his faith became tall like a tree.

Say: No matter who we are, we can be better people.  Jesus wants us to know that none of us are perfect and that God loves us all.

Memory Verse:
Luke 19:5 (…“Hurry down, Zacchaeus, because I must stay in your house today..."’…)

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
                  --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the
dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
