Entrance Song

Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me

Jesus, Shine Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father's glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire!!
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light x2

Ask: What was last week’s theme? The Jesse Tree.

to pray for me to the Lord our God…
Oh Lord Have Mercy
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy

Liturgy of the Word
Introduction of the first reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah tells the people (and us!) that God sent him to tell others about God. The Israelites who listened to Isaiah were not happy. Many were slaves and they often did not have enough to eat. Lets listen to the words of Isaiah.
A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Isaiah 61:1-2 (GNT)

The Good News of Deliverance
61 The Sovereign Lord has filled me with his Spirit. He has chosen me and sent me
To bring good news to the poor, To heal the broken-hearted, To announce release to captives, And freedom to those in prison.
2 He has sent me to proclaim
That the time has come
When the Lord will save his people
And defeat their enemies.
He has sent me to comfort all who mourn,
The Lord himself has promised this.”

This is the word of the Lord;
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask: How did Isaiah’s words make you feel?  <discuss>

What did you hear that was important to you?

Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:

< My soul rejoices in the Lord..> 3x

Introducing the Gospel
Say: Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of the Apostle John. When John the Baptist talked to the people and baptized them, many people followed him.  There had been many prophets before John (like who? Isaiah).  The Israelites had been waiting a long time for the Lord to come to save them.  So many people liked John that many of them thought he might be the one they were waiting forh.  Listen to what he tells them.

...with Alleluia!! –
We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!
Welcoming the Gospel;

Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord...
Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts:
-The Lord be with You,
-And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John.
Glory to You, O Lord

John 1:6-8, 19-28 (GNT)

Light of the World.
6 God sent his messenger, a man named John, 7 who came to tell people about the light, so that all should hear the message and believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came to tell about the light.

John the Baptist's Message
19 The Jewish authorities in Jerusalem sent some priests and Levites to John to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 John did not refuse to answer, but spoke out openly and clearly, saying: “I am not the Messiah.”
21 “Who are you, then?” they asked. “Are you Elijah?”
“No, I am not,” John answered.
“Are you the Prophet?”[a] they asked.
“No,” he replied.
22 “Then tell us who you are,” they said. “We have to take an answer back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 John answered by quoting the prophet Isaiah:“I am ‘the voice of someone shouting in the desert:
    Make a straight path for the Lord to travel!’”
24 The messengers, who had been sent by the Pharisees, 25 then asked John, “If you are not the Messiah nor Elijah nor the Prophet, why do you baptize?”
26 John answered, “I baptize with water, but among you, stands the one you do not know. 27 He is coming after me, but I am not good enough even to untie his sandals.”  28 All this happened in Bethany on the east side of the Jordan River, where John was baptizing.
“The Gospel of the Lord”

All say “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”.

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and at children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:

Ask:  Did you hear what John said? <let the children retell the reading>  Was John the one the people had been waiting for?  <NO – Jesus is coming very soon!>

Memory Verse:
“John 1:27 “…<“ 27 He is coming after me, but I am not good enough even to untie His sandals.”>...”x3

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
====  7:24 - 7:26 ====
Prayers of the Faithful . Now is the time to pray for our stuff :-) Intercessions.
You may want to ask the children to offer their own prayers, or you can use the suggestions here.

Leader: John came to tell us about Jesus, light of the world, and so we pray together that we may share that light with others:

Prayer 1. We pray for world leaders: that they may be guided by the light to do what is best for the people in their countries... We pray to the Lord...

Prayer 2. We pray for people who are poor, sad, hungry or lonely: that they may find light in their darkness and hope for a brighter future… We pray to the Lord....

Prayer 3. We pray for our parish, family and friends: that through our actions others may see the light of Jesus shining... We pray to the Lord...

Prayer 4. Jesus, light of the world, help us to be shining examples of your love and light to all members of our global family.... We pray to the Lord...

====  7:26 - 7:28 ====
Silently, each one tells God their petition.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever. Amen
====  7:28 - 7:30 ====
Song Interlude: Walk Walk in the light, walk walk in the light, Sing as we give in our offertory and we walk to the big  church...

NOTE-- after the song is sung, (and there is still some time), we pick the children that will perform next Sunday....

 Bring up A child in a way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
