God's spirit is in my heart

This is what I have to do
What I have to do
He has called me and set me apart
This is what I have to do
What I have to do
Chorus: He sent me to give good news to the poor
Tell prisoners that they are prisoners no more
Tell blind people that they can see,
And set the downtrodden free
And go tell everyone
The news that the kingdom of God has come x2
Welcome;
Today
we hear Jesus telling people what it is He has come to do. One
of
the things He says is that He has come to bring good news to people who are
poor. Our faith calls us to do the same. Let’s think a bit more about what this
good news is and how we can share it with others today.
//V//
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R//
Amen.
//V//
May The
Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R// And with Your Spirit.

and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I
have failed to do
-strike
the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever
Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.
You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy
You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy
You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive
us our sins and bring us to life everlasting? AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the First
reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament, the
book of the prophet Nehemiah. NEH 8:2-4A, 5-6, 8-10) This reading is
about the prophet Ezra and a time when he read aloud to the people about
God. See if you know what exactly Ezra read to the people..
NEH 8:2-4A, 5-6,
8-10
Ezra
Reads the Law to the People
2
And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and
women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the
seventh month.
3
And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the
morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could
understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the
law.
5
And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all
the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
6
And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen,
Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped
the Lord with their faces to the ground.
The
word of the
Lord,
All
say: “Thanks be to God”.
Ask: What exactly did Ezra read
to the people? <the law of
Moses> Is this something you know about? Is this
part of our sacred Scripture? <yes> What could that mean? What message could ‘Ezra’
hold for us? < to read the Bible, to
be open to hear what God wants us to do by listening to Scripture>
Let us focus on our
responsorial Psalm:
< Your words, Lord, are spirit and life.> 3x.
Introduce the Gospel
Explain; Today’s
Gospel reading is from the book of St. Luke. Imagine that you are in a Jewish
temple in Nazareth at the time of Christ. Can anyone tell me what is
important about Nazareth? <Jesus’ hometown> You are
sitting around listening to each other take turns reading from the Holy
Book. All of a sudden, Jesus (the guy who you knew growing up – maybe your
best friend, maybe you didn’t like Him) is taking His turn. He
begins to read and then when He finishes and closes the book, He says something
rather weird. Listen to the Gospel and let’s see what it was.
Let us welcome the Gospel:
..with Alleluia!! - OR
Welcome the Gospel through a
song.
Good
News today, Yes good news, good news today, good news today, the news of
Salavation. Alle-luia Alle, Alle-luia, Alle-luia, A—lleluia x2
Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may
worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Lord be with You,
AND
with your Spirit.
The
Gospel Reading was written by Lk 4:14-21 Let Lord’s Word be in my
mind <make a cross on forehead>, and on my lips <make a
cross on lips>, and in my heart <make a cross on the
left side of the chest> OR
Glory to You Lord Jesus Christ.
Lk 4:14-21
Jesus Begins
His Work in Galilee
14 Then Jesus returned to Galilee, and
the power of the Holy Spirit was with him. The news about him spread throughout
all that territory. 15 He taught in
the synagogues and was praised by everyone.
Jesus Is Rejected at Nazareth
16 Then Jesus went to Nazareth, where
he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath he went as usual to the synagogue.
He stood up to read the Scriptures 17 and was
handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the
place where it is written,
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed
19 and announce that the time has come
when the Lord will save his people.”
because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed
19 and announce that the time has come
when the Lord will save his people.”
20 Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it
back to the attendant, and sat down. All the people in the synagogue had their
eyes fixed on him, 21 as he said to them, “This passage of
scripture has come true today, as you heard it being read.”
The Gospel of the Lord”
“Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus
Christ”
==== 7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*)Tell an interesting story
according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding.
Gospel reflection:
Ask: What did
Jesus say? <that what He had read – what the prophet
Isaiah had foretold – had come true today> He was telling his
neighbors that “the Lord had chosen Him to tell the good news”. How
do you think the people felt? <discuss> How do you think you would feel if one of
your friends tried to convince you that He was sent by
God? <discuss> Anyway, Good news means different things to different
people. It can be confidence,
peace, a fair price, enough food, being top of the
class, getting to spend the day
with friends.
We are all God’s children and so we should all have
the chance to live in a world of peace, dignity and fairness.
Great!
Let us stand
up and we profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I
believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator
of heaven and earth:
And
in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
--bow
down--
Who
was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered
under Pontius Pilate;
was
crucified, died and was buried:
He
descended into hell:
The
third day, He rose again from the dead:
He
ascended into heaven,
and
sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From
there He will come to judge the leaving and the dead:
I
believe in the Holy Spirit:
the
holy catholic church:
the
communion of saints:
The
forgiveness of sins:
The
resurrection of the body:
And
the life everlasting.
Amen.

Prayers

You may want to
ask the children to offer their own prayers or you can use the suggestions
below.
We know that all things are possible to
God, and so we pray together:

world church leaders: Our Pope, Pope Francis, our
arch Bishop Cyprian Lwanga,
Bishops, Priests and all the clergy, that it may continue to follow the example
of Jesus, by bringing good news to people who are poor and working to help all
people live life to the full.We pray to the Lord...
Prayer 2. Let us pray
for our parents, that they may have the
chance to share
their good news stories and to build a better future. So that they get a
positive change in their lives and lives of people around them.. We pray to the
Lord...
Prayer 3 Let us pray for our parish, families and
friends: that we may always do our best to help others, to share what we have
and to share the good news with people who are poor. We pray to the
Lord...
Prayer 4. Let
us pray for each one of us here, you call each and every one of us to proclaim
your good news to people who
are poor, hungry, sad, lonely, bullied, scared, or weary. May we do all that we
can to answer that call.
We pray to the Lord...
