Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin

all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?
AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the old testament book of (Ecclesiasticus or Sirach 35:12-14, 16-19).GNT
Explain:  In this story, you are told to serve the Lord willingly, and the Lord will accept you; your prayers will reach the skies and to the Lord.!!! Listen attentively.

A prepared child comes and takes the first reading or second reading.

The first reading is from the old book of Sirach 35:12-14 16-19 (GNT)

12 But don't try to bribe him or rely on offerings that you have obtained dishonestly. He will not accept them.

God's Justice

The Lord is fair[a] and does not show partiality. 13 He is not prejudiced against the poor; when someone prays who has been wronged, the Lord listens. 14 When orphans and widows pour out their prayers, he does not ignore them.
16 Serve the Lord willingly, and the Lord will accept you; your prayers will reach the skies. 17 The prayer of a humble person goes past the clouds and keeps on going until it reaches the Lord Most High, where it stays until he answers by seeing that justice is done and that the guilty are punished.
18 And the Lord will act quickly. He will show no patience with wicked people. He will take vengeance by crushing the heathen. He will completely wipe out the merciless and the arrogant, and will destroy the authority of the wicked. 19 He will give each of us what our thoughts and actions deserve. Because of the Lord's mercy, his people will be happy when he has judged their case.
“This is the word of the Lord
All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What happens when God’s people pray? <God listens> but He is fair with no partiality. What happens when a wronged someone prays?, <the Lord listens to him more> So no more doing wrong, because God dislikes a person that does wrong to others.

Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< The Lord hears the cry of the poor..….>3x.

Introduce the Gospel

Today’s Gospel reading is taken from the book of Luke, Jesus tells a parable about The Pharisee and the Tax Collector.
Jesus tells us that the tax collector felt he was a sinner, when he prayed, he repented but the Pharisee’s prayer, was so full of himself alone!
Let’s see if that is what you hear in this reading.

Let us Welcome the Gospel
..with Alleluia!! - OR
Welcome the Gospel through a song.
Chorus:
Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah! Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah! Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!!!
Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
AND with your Spirit.

A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke

Glory to You, O Lord

Luke 18:9-14 (GNT)
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
Jesus also told this parable to people who were sure of their own goodness and despised everybody else. 10 “Once there were two men who went up to the Temple to pray: one was a Pharisee, the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood apart by himself and prayed,[a] ‘I thank you, God, that I am not greedy, dishonest, or an adulterer, like everybody else. I thank you that I am not like that tax collector over there. 12 I fast two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all my income.’ 13 But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even raise his face to heaven, but beat on his breast and said, ‘God, have pity on me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you,” said Jesus, “the tax collector, and not the Pharisee, was in the right with God when he went home. For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great.”
The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the
Gospel reflectionPractical seen
Prepare 2 glasses, 2 stones labelled God, & pebbles or sand or beans.
Fill 1st glass with pebbles (or sand or beans), Ask: Is there room for anything else in there? <No>, of course not. Produce a stone labelled ‘God.’ Can God fit in this heart? No, it is already full…Tell the children that this represents the Pharisee’s heart—very full of his own importance.
2nd glass without pebbles and insert a stone labelled ‘God.’ in firstTell them that this is like the tax collector’s heart
Ask: Is there still room for pebbles. <Yes> there is still room.
ExplainTry to emphasise that the Pharisee is still loved by God, but the Pharisee doesn’t seem to want to understand God in his heart, and this makes it hard for the Pharisee to accept God’s love. Depending on the age of the children, you may wish to send each child home with a pebble to remind them of the gospel message today, to place God first in their lives.

Memory Verse:
Luke 18:14 (…For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves, will be made great.."’…)

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
                  --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the leaving and the
dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the old testament book of (Exodus 17:8-13).
Explain:  It is a story about prophet Moses at war with the Amalekites. 11 As long as Moses held up his arms, the Israelites, won...!!  Listen closely and hear what happens when his arms got tired..

A prepared child comes and takes the first reading or second reading.

Exodus 17:8-13(GNT)

War with the Amalekites

The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Pick out some men to go and fight the Amalekites tomorrow. I will stand on top of the hill holding the stick that God told me to carry.” 10 Joshua did as Moses commanded him and went out to fight the Amalekites, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.11 As long as Moses held up his arms, the Israelites won, but when he put his arms down, the Amalekites started winning.12 When Moses' arms grew tired, Aaron and Hur brought a stone for him to sit on, while they stood beside him and held up his arms, holding them steady until the sun went down. 13 In this way Joshua totally defeated the Amalekites.
This is the word of the Lord
All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What happened when Prophet Moses put down his arms?  <The Israelites would lose the war>  Why would they win, when Moses does that?  <While in the desert, God gave unique powers to Moses so that His special people would be protected. How did Joshua with the  Israelites win that battle? Aaron and Hur brought a stone for him to sit on, while they stood beside him and held up his arms, holding them steady until the sun went down. 13 In this way Joshua totally defeated the Amalekites
Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations.….>3x.

Introduce the Gospel

Today’s Gospel reading is taken from the book of Luke, Jesus tells a parable about praying and never giving up.  He tells about a woman that feels that she was unfairly treated. She kept talking to the person in charge until he finally did the right thing for her.
Jesus tells us that if people who are not very nice can still do the right thing – even if it is for the wrong reason – how much more will God do for us because he loves us?  Let’s see if that is what you hear in this reading.

Welcoming the Gospel

A reading from the holy Gospel according to St.Luke

Glory to You, O Lord

Luke 18:1-8 (GNT)

The Parable of the Widow and the Judge

18 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to teach them that they should always pray and never become discouraged.“In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected people. And there was a widow in that same town who kept coming to him and pleading for her rights, saying, ‘Help me against my opponent!’ For a long time the judge refused to act, but at last he said to himself, ‘Even though I don't fear God or respect people, yet because of all the trouble this widow is giving me, I will see to it that she gets her rights. If I don't, she will keep on coming and finally wear me out!’”
And the Lord continued, “Listen to what that corrupt judge said. Now, will God not judge in favor of his own people who cry to him day and night for help? Will he be slow to help them? I tell you, he will judge in their favor and do it quickly. But will the Son of Man find faith on earth when he comes?”
The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the
Gospel reflection:

What do you think Don’t you think God loves you as much as your parents do?  He always listens to your prayers – even if his answers are not the ones you are looking for. What happens on the phone if you put down the receiver?  <no more communication> To be open to God, we need to keep the line of communication open.  We need to keep listening even if we don’t like what we are hearing

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
