Entrance Song

God of mercy and compassion, look with pity upon me, Father let me call Thee Father 'tis this child returns to Thee

Jesus Lord, I ask for mercy, let me not implore in vain
All my sins I now detest them; never will I sin again.

By my sins I have deserved death, and endless misery. Hell with all its pains and torments, for all eternity.

Ask: Last week’s theme was <The voice”> At Transfiguration, our Lord Jesus Christ turned into light, And God’s voice said, This is my beloved son,… Listen to Him.

Welcome; Today we hear a story about Jesus talking to a Samaritan woman at a well. And Jesus says, He is the source of Living water. This story reminds us that God loves all people no matter where they are from. God asks us to be like Jesus and to respect and care for all people no matter who they are.

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
 //R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?

AMEN

Liturgy of the Word

Introduce the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of Exodus. We are going to hear about Moses leading his people to the promised land.  Remember that they have been in the desert for a long while and are very thirsty.  They have not been able to find water.  They are very angry with Moses because they are afraid that they will die.  Let’s listen to what happened.…

A prepared child/children come and take the first reading or second reading.

First Reading is from the book Exodus 17:3-7
Exodus 17:3-7 (GNT)
But the people were very thirsty and continued to complain to Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt? To kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
Moses prayed earnestly to the Lord and said, “What can I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
The Lord said to Moses, “Take some of the leaders of Israel with you, and go on ahead of the people. Take along the stick with which you struck the Nile. I will stand before you on a rock at Mount Sinai. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” Moses did so in the presence of the leaders of Israel.
The place was named Massah and Meribah,[a] because the Israelites complained and put the Lord to the test when they asked, “Is the Lord with us or not?”

This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: Did you hear what happened?  <Moses struck a rock with a stick and water came out of it>  Water made the difference between living and dying for these people.  God made a life-giving substance, water, spring from a dead object, the rock.  But only because of one very special action on Moses’ part.  What did Moses do that was so unusual?  <let the children guess.. Moses did exactly what God told him to do… Even though it didn’t make any sense to Moses at all.  Moses did not harden his heart.  Moses had faith.

Say: Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:

O that today you would listen to his voice,
Harden not your hearts........>3x.

Introduce the Gospel
Say:  Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of the Apostle John. We hear about when Jesus was travelling through Samaria.  What do you remember about the people who lived in Samaria?  <they were enemies of most Jews> Jesus was hot and tired.  He sat down by the town well and asked a Samaritan woman to get Him a drink of water.  Let’s listen to the reading and see if  we can hear what happened.
....
Now we will stand to get ready to hear the Gospel
..with No Alleluia!! –J J
In lent period, we shall not sing the ALLELUIA, BECAUSE it’s a time for us to reflect to be extra silent in our life style. Sing a song without Alleluia.
Silently say: Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord

John 4:5-15, 40-42 (NRSVCE)

5 So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon.

7 A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?” (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.)[a] 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have no bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well, and with his sons and his flocks drank from it?” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.” “40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them; and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Saviour of the world.”
The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:
Ask: Did the woman get him a drink of water?  Why was the woman surprised that Jesus asked her for help?  <because Jews did not like or trust Samaritans>  Then what happened? It was also unusual at the time for a man to talk to a woman he did not know.

But even though it is unusual, Jesus talks to the woman anyway. Why do you think he does this?

Jesus is showing us that God loves everyone. No matter who they are or where they come from – man or woman, boy or girl, rich or poor, black or white.

Memory Verse: “John 4:10 ( Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”.)
Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

Prayer 1. Let us pray for the church leaders; Pope Francis, the Arch Bishop Dr. Kizito Cyprian Lwanga, Priests, and all the lay faithful, that they may continue to follow Jesus’ example and be welcoming to all, reaching out especially to those who are living in fear of not being accepted, as they spread the message of love. We pray to the Lord...
Prayer2
Let us pray for all civil leaders throughout the world and most especially, our leaders in Uganda, may the good Lord, help them to act with love to bring about a hopeful change of heart to people who are treated badly because they are different... We pray to the Lord...

Prayer 3.
Let us pray for our parents, that our Lord gives them long lives and keep them well in body and spirit. Bless their labours dear Lord, keep them always in His care. Bless them generously for their loving care for us. Grant that, through God’s grace, we may always be examples to other children. We pray to the Lord....

Prayer 4. And for all of us gathered here, let us pray for forgiveness, faith and hope, that knowing we are all children of God, we may respect and care for all people around us and encourage others to do the same..
We pray to the Lord...

Prayer 5. For all our relatives and friends who have died, Eternal rest grant unto them oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. We pray to the Lord...
