Lord I lift your name on High

Lord I lift your name on high
Lord I love to sing your praises
I’m so glad you’re in my life

I’m so glad you came to save us.

You came from heaven to earth to show the way
From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay
from the cross to the grave
from the grave to the sky
Lord I lift your name on high.

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

 //R// Amen.

Liturgy of the Word

Introduce the first reading.

Say: Today’s first reading is from the New Testament book of the Acts of the Apostles. (Acts 1:8-11) Jesus is talking to the Apostles and telling them to do something.  Then he rose up into heaven.  Listen closely and see if you can hear what Jesus told his friends to do.

A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Acts 1:8-11 GNT

Jesus ascends into heaven.

8 But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After saying this, He was taken up to heaven as they watched Him, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.

10 They still had their eyes fixed on the sky as He went away, when two men dressed in white suddenly stood beside them 11 and said, “Galileans, why are you standing there looking up at the sky? This Jesus, who was taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way that you saw him go to heaven.”

“This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: what did Jesus tell his friends to do?  <to go out into the world and tell everyone about Him>Then what happened after Jesus rose up into heaven?  <two men dressed in white appeared and told the Apostles that Jesus would come back in the same way> Do you know when Jesus will come back? <at the end of the world>

Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:

< God mounts the throne to shouts of joy> 3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say:  Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Matthew. (Matt 28:16-20).  Matthew clearly retells the instructions that Jesus left to his followers.  While you listen to St. Matthew’s Gospel, remember that you are one of Jesus’ followers and think about what his instructions mean in your life.…

...with Alleluia!! –

We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!

You are welcome Lord of Lords

You are welcome King of Kings

You are welcome Lord of Hosts

You are welcome Prince of Peace

You are welcome here,

Allelu-u-uia, Allelu-u-uia

Mighty God x2

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,

And with your Spirit.

A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.

Glory to You, O Lord

Matthew 28:16-20 (GNT)

Jesus Appears to His Disciples 16 The eleven disciples went to the hill in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him, even though some of them doubted. 18 Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20 and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

The Gospel of the Lord”

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====

(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:

What did Jesus tell His followers to do?  <let the children respond>  Is there anything here that you can do?  <tell your friends about Jesus, be kind and show people the love of Jesus>  What can you do today?  <let the children respond>

Memory Verse: Matthew 28:18

18 Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth..

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

         --bow down--

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

was crucified, died and was buried:

He descended into hell:

The third day he rose again from the dead:

He ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Spirit:

the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting.

Amen.

Liturgy of the Word

Introduce the first reading.

Say: Today’s first reading is from the Acts of the Apostles. This is a story about St. Philip in Samaria.  Does anyone remember anything about the people who lived in Samaria?  The people were called Samaritans.  <probably someone will recall the story of the good Samaritan>  When Jesus lived on earth, very few people liked the Samaritans.  No one would talk to them or be nice to them or even get near them.

A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Acts 8: 5-8, 14-17 GNT

Philip Tells the Good News in Samaria

5 Philip went to the principal city[a] in Samaria and preached the Messiah to the people there. 6 The crowds paid close attention to what Philip said, as they listened to him and saw the miracles that he performed. 7 Evil spirits came out from many people with a loud cry, and many paralyzed and lame people were healed. 8 So there was great joy in that city.

14 The apostles in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had received the word of God, so they sent Peter and John to them. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the believers that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For the Holy Spirit had not yet come down on any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

“This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: Did you hear what happened?  <the Holy Spirit came to the people in Samaria>  this reading reminds us that the Holy Spirit is `available for anyone who believes in Jesus – even people who are not exactly like us, even people we might be afraid of.

Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:66

< Let all the earth cry out to God with joy> 3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say:  Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of St. John. St. John tells us about Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit to us.  He promised that he would not leave us here alone.  Let’s listen to see if we can hear who Jesus said he was going to send to us…

...with Alleluia!! –

We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!

Alle-lu Alle-lu, Alle-lu Alle-lluia!!

Lets praise the Lord….

Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lluia!!,

Lets praise the Lord….

Alle-luia, Lets Praise the Lord!

Alle-luia, Lets Praise the Lord!

Alle..lluia Lets praise the Lord….!!!

A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John.

Glory to You, O Lord

John 14:15-21 (GNT)

The Promise of the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, you will obey my commandments. 16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. 17 He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him, because he remains with you and is[a] in you.

18 “When I go, you will not be left all alone; I will come back to you. 19 In a little while the world will see me no more, but you will see me; and because I live, you also will live. 20 When that day comes, you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me, just as I am in you.

21 “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. My Father will love those who love me; I too will love them and reveal myself to them.”

The Gospel of the Lord”

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

What happened?  <let the children retell what they heard> What was the promise that Jesus made?  <that when he returned to his father, he would send the Holy Spirit to us> What else do we need to build our faith community?  <the Holy Spirit>
