Liturgy of the Word

First Reading

Genesis. (Gen 18:1–10a).  It is a story about Abraham and his wife.  Does anyone remember her name?  <Sarah>  This is a story of service and a promise made to Abraham because he was such a good servant>..

Now give to the child to start reading the first reading below.

Today’s first reading is from the old Testament book of Genesis 18:1-2 6–10

The Three Visitors, Promised Sarah of 90yrs a Baby.

18 Later, the Lord again appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre. At that time Abraham was sitting at the door of his tent. It was during the hottest part of the day. 2 He looked up and saw three men standing near him.

6 Abraham hurried to the tent where Sarah was. He said to her, “Hurry, prepare 20 quarts of fine flour. Make it into loaves of bread.” 7 Then Abraham ran to his cattle. He took one of his best calves and gave it to a servant. The servant hurried to kill the calf and to prepare it for food. 8 Abraham gave the three men the calf that had been cooked. He also gave them milk curds and milk. While the three men ate, he stood under the tree near them

9 The men asked Abraham, “Where is your wife Sarah?”

“There, in the tent,” said Abraham.

10 Then the Lord said, “I will certainly return to you about this time a year from now. At that time your wife Sarah will have a son.

Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent which was behind him.     This is the word of the Lord,

Responsorial Psalm

The just will live in the presence of the Lord.

Introducing the Gospel

(Lk 10:38-42)  Today St Luke tells us about two women who were friends of Jesus.  They were sisters and didn’t always agree with each other.  Does anyone here have a sister or brother that they don’t always agree with?  Listen to this story about a time when Jesus visited their house and what happened..

with Alleluia!!.

Welcoming the Gospel

You are welcome Lord of Lords,

You are welcome King of Kings

You are welcome Lord of Hosts

You are welcome Prince of Peace..

You are welcome here, Alle-lluia,

Alle..lluia Might God!!!

Silently say:” Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel to your little children.

The Lord be with You,

AND with your Spirit

The Gospel reading is from the book of...”  Luke 10:38-42(GNT)

Jesus Visits Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples went on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed him in her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the feet of the Lord and listened to his teaching. 40 Martha was upset over all the work she had to do, so she came and said, “Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!”

41 The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and troubled over so many things, 42 but just one is needed. Mary has chosen the right thing, and it will not be taken away from her.”

“The Gospel of the Lord”,

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the Gospel reflection:

====  7:24 - 7:27 ====

Gospel Reflection

Ask:  What happened? <discuss>  How was Martha serving? <by preparing food and taking care of her guests> How was Mary serving? <by listening to Jesus>  Why do you think that Jesus said that Mary’s service was more important?  <discuss… because she was learning all that she could, because Martha shows us by her actions and words about Mary that she didn’t quite understand Jesus’ message, because Jesus would not be on earth with them much longer >  Do you think that Jesus was criticizing the work that Martha was doing?  <not at  all, there is a time and place for all kinds of service – it was her thoughts and words that were at fault>

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to do the right thing in the coming week.

Profession of our faith

Creator of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: --bow down--

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading
Deuteronomy 30:10-14, You already remember that God gave the Commandments to Moses. How do you think that the Israelites acted when Moses brought down this list of rules for them?  Do you think they were happy about it or do you think that they complained?  <complained- about how hard it would be to follow the rules>  Let’s listen to what Moses said to them about following the Commandments>..
Now give to the child to start reading the first reading below.

Today’s first reading is from the old Testament book of Deuteronomy 30:10-14 (ICB)

10 But you must obey the Lord your God. You must obey his commands and rules that are written in this Book of the Teachings. You must follow the Lord your God with your whole being.

Life or Death
11 This command I give you today is not too hard for you. It is not beyond what you can do. 12 It is not up in heaven. You do not have to ask, “Who will go up to heaven and get it for us? Then we can obey it and keep it.” 13 It is not on the other side of the sea. You do not have to ask, “Who will go across the sea and get it? Who will tell it to us? Then we can keep it.” 14 No, the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart. So, you may obey it..

This is the word of the Lord,

Responsorial Psalm
Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live!
Introducing the Gospel

Today’s gospel again addresses something we have mentioned a couple of times the last few weeks… “who are God’s people?”  Do you remember?  The question is worded differently in this reading but means the same thing.  “Who is your neighbor?”.
with Alleluia!!.

Luke 10:25-37 (ICB)
The Good Samaritan

25 Then a teacher of the law stood up. He was trying to test Jesus. He said, “Teacher, what must I do to get life forever?”26 Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?”
27 The man answered, “Love the Lord your God. Love him with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.”[a] Also, “You must love your neighbor as you love yourself.”[b]
28 Jesus said to him, “Your answer is right. Do this and you will have life forever.”
29 But the man wanted to show that the way he was living was right. So he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 To answer this question, Jesus said, “A man was going down the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. Some robbers attacked him. They tore off his clothes and beat him. Then they left him lying there, almost dead. 31 It happened that a Jewish priest was going down that road. When the priest saw the man, he walked by on the other side of the road. 32 Next, a Levite[c] came there. He went over and looked at the man. Then he walked by on the other side of the road. 33 Then a Samaritan[d]traveling down the road came to where the hurt man was lying. He saw the man and felt very sorry for him. 34 The Samaritan went to him and poured olive oil and wine[e] on his wounds and bandaged them. He put the hurt man on his own donkey and took him to an inn. At the inn, the Samaritan took care of him. 35 The next day, the Samaritan brought out two silver coins[f] and gave them to the innkeeper. The Samaritan said, ‘Take care of this man. If you spend more money on him, I will pay it back to you when I come again.’”
36 Then Jesus said, “Which one of these three men do you think was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by the robbers?”
37 The teacher of the law answered, “The one who helped him.”
Jesus said to him, “Then go and do the same thing he did!”!

“The Gospel of the Lord”,

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

AskDid you hear who our neighbors are?  <everyone>  Is it just the person who lives next door?  Is it just someone who belongs to St. Mbaaga Tuzinde Church?  Or just your family members?  <right… it’s everybody>  It’s the child you know that no one likes, it’s the lonely adult that sits next to you in church, it’s often the people who are hard to reach out to.  But reaching out to others is exactly what Jesus says we must do….  Not thinking about it, not a lot of extra work or travelling across the world.

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to do the right thing in the coming week.
