Liturgy of the Word
First Reading
The reading today tells about how a man named Saul became a follower of Jesus. DOES anyone here remember anything about Saul? <let the children discuss> Saul was a Roman soldier who followed his orders to chase after and kill the people who followed Jesus. God spoke to Saul and changed his name. Does anyone know what his new name was? <Paul> Pretend that you are one of Jesus’ Apostles. Listen to the reading and think about how you might feel about the new Christian, Saul.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the New Testament book called the Acts of the
Apostles. Acts 9:26-31
Usually we hear a reading from the Old Testament before the Gospel reading. During the Easter season, we will hear from the New Testament book of Acts... Does anyone remember why that would be? <because in Acts we learn about the days of the early church – and during the Easter season, the church spends time studying how the early church was formed in the days after Jesus’ death and Resurrection>
Now give to the child to start reading the first reading below.
Today’s first reading is from the first New Testament book of
(Acts 9:26-31)

Saul in Jerusalem
26 Saul went to Jerusalem and tried to join the disciples. But they would not believe that he was a disciple, and they were all afraid of him. 27 Then Barnabas came to his help and took him to the apostles. He explained to them how Saul had seen the Lord on the
road and that the Lord had spoken to him. He also told them how boldly Saul had preached in the name of Jesus in Damascus. 28 And so Saul stayed with them and went all over Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord.
29 He also talked and disputed with the Greek-speaking Jews, but they tried to kill him. 30 When the believers found out about this, they took Saul to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.
31 And so it was that the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had a time of peace. Through the help of the Holy Spirit it was strengthened and grew in numbers, as it lived in reverence for the Lord..” The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God”.
Ask: How do you think you might feel about Saul? <afraid, not trust him, etc.> Barnabas listened to God and believed in Saul. Barnabas believed even though it didn’t make sense to him. All people can change if they really want to. Saul became one of the most important teachers in the early church.
..with Alleluia!! Let us welcome the Gospel-
Welcoming the Gospel
Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-lluia, Lets praise the Lord...

Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord... Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord... Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord... Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel to your little children.
The Lord be with You,

AND with your Spirit

The Gospel reading is from the book of...”John 15:1-8
And at the end, say “The Gospel of the Lord” and all repeat “Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ
Jesus the Real Vine
15 “I am the real vine, and my Father is the gar- dener. 2 He breaks off every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and he prunes every branch that does bear fruit, so that it will be clean and bear more fruit. 3 You have been made clean al- ready by the teaching I have given you. 4 Remain united to me, and I will remain united to you. A branch cannot bear fruit by itself; it can do so only if it remains in the vine. In the same way you can- not bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me. 6 Those who do not remain in me are thrown out like a branch and dry up; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, where they are burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, then you will ask for anything you wish, and you shall have it. 8 My Father's glory is shown by your bearing much fruit; and in this way you become my disciples.
Gospel of the Lord”, “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gos- pel and children’s level of understanding like in the
Gospel reflection:
==== 7:24 - 7:27 ====
Gospel Reflection.
Ask: What do you remember from to- day’s reading?
Jesus is teaching his disciples. He
calls himself the “true vine”. Do you
know what a vine is? What grows on a
vine?
Grapes grow on vines. (Hold up a bunch
of grapes to the children). Do you
like grapes? What other fruit do you
like?
Jesus called us his branches because
he supports us, like a tree supports
its branches. He wants us to bear him
fruit.
What do you think this means? Do you
think he wants us to grow grapes?
What Jesus means is that he wants us
to follow his teachings, and love our
neighbour. By doing this it will be
like bearing fruit for his vine, be-
cause we will be sharing his love with
others. Ask: Why is it important for
us to keep following Jesus? <to stay
good, to lead good lives, to get to
heaven> Is it hard to follow Jesus?
<sometimes> Sometimes it’s just hard
to remember to keep praying or to
think about Jesus. When we get busy
going to school or playing, we some-
times forget that Jesus is there with
us. Let’s try this week to think of
Jesus a little bit more than usual
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

--bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:

And the third day He rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From there He shall come again to judge the leaving and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.
