Children’s liturgy Instructions - Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C) 31/01/2016
Colour: Green
Theme: The Rock.

Props: A Rock/ A Stone
     ====  7:00 - 7:03 ====
Entrance Song:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

Welcome;
Does anyone remember what we learned last Sunday?  We talked about how important it is to read the sacred Scripture just like Jesus did.

Today’s readings and all the readings until Lent are about when Jesus started teaching people about love, when He began His public ministry.  Jesus is all about LOVE!!

In the gospel, we hear how the people of Jesus’ own town, Nazareth, became very angry with him. Listen to find out why…

Our theme is a ROCK.  What could a rock have to do with love?  <discuss>

Explain:  A ROCK is used often in Scripture as a symbol of strength.  God’s love is strong, so strong it can protect us from anything.  Today’s readings are about the strength of God’s love for us.
//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
            -strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.

May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting? AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament, the book of the prophet Jeremiah. (Jer 1:4-5,17ab,18-19)  This reading is about God’s promises to Jeremiah and to us.  He promises to always take care of the people He chooses to do His work.
 A prepared child comes and takes the first reading or second reading.

The Call of Jeremiah

The word of the Lord came to me, saying,“Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

17 “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them. 18 Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. 19 They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
 This is the word of the Lord
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:

< I will sing of your salvation.>3x.
Introduce the Gospel
Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Luke.  (Lk 4:20b-24, 28-30) Do you remember last week we were pretending to be listening in the Temple in Nazareth as Jesus read the Scriptures?  Does anyone remember what happened?  Jesus read a passage from the prophet Isaiah.  He read that “the Lord’s Spirit has come to me because he has chosen me to tell the good news”.  When he finished, he closed the book and told everyone that this was true *Today we will finish the story and hear how the men in the temple reacted when Jesus said this.. Let us welcome the Gospel:
..with Alleluia!! - OR
Welcome the Gospel through a song.
Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord,
Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord,
Alle-luia, Lets Praise the Lord
Alle-luia, Lets Praise the Lord
Alle..lluia Lets praise the Lord!!!

Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Lord be with You,
AND with your Spirit.

The Gospel Reading was written by (Lk 4:20b-24, 28-30) Let Lord’s Word be in my mind <make a cross on forehead>, and on my lips <make a cross on lips>, and in my heart <make a cross on the left side of the chest>

        OR

Glory to You Lord Jesus Christ.

Luke 4:20-24

20 Jesus closed the book, gave it back, and sat down. Everyone in the synagogue was watching Jesus closely. 21 He began to speak to them. He said, “While you heard these words just now, they were coming true!”
22 All the people praised Jesus. They were amazed at the beautiful words he spoke. They asked, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”
23 Jesus said to them, “I know that you will tell me the old saying: ‘Doctor, heal yourself.’ You want to say, ‘We heard about the things you did in Capernaum. Do those things here in your own town!’” 24 Then Jesus said, “I tell you the truth. A prophet is not accepted in his own town. 4:28-30
28 When all the people in the synagogue heard these things, they became very angry.29 They got up and forced Jesus out of town. The town was built on a hill. They took Jesus to the edge of the hill and wanted to throw him off. 30 But Jesus walked through the crowd and went on his way.
The Gospel of the Lord”
“Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ”
  ====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding.
Gospel reflection:
Ask:  What actually happened?  <the people thought He was crazy.  They felt that He was making fun of God and they drove Him out of town.>  Why do you think it was so hard for the people of Nazareth to accept that Jesus might be the Son of God?  <They knew him as a child and watched him grow up>  It was confusing for them because they were all waiting for a king to come save them and it turned out to be little Jesus from next door.  The strength of God’s love and commitment was right in front of them and they could not recognize

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
                  --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day, He rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the leaving and the
dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
