Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation
You were sent to heal the contrite of heart
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy
You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy
You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading
The Book of Acts is all about the time after Christ rose from the dead – but before the feast of Pentecost.  It tells about the things that happened and the way the Apostles felt.

Today’s first reading is from the New Testament,. Acts 5:12-16

Miracles and Wonders
12 Many miracles and wonders were being performed among the people by the apostles. All the believers met together in Solomon's Porch. 13 Nobody outside the group dared join them, even though the people spoke highly of them. 14 But more and more people were added to the group—a crowd of men and women who believed in the Lord. 15 As a result of what the apostles were doing, sick people were carried out into the streets and placed on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. 16 And crowds of people came in from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing those who were sick or who had evil spirits in them; and they were all healed.
This is the word of the Lord

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Responsorial Psalm

Give thanks, for the Lord is good; God’s love is everlasting.

Introducing the Gospel

Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of John.  (Jn 20:19-29) In this reading from John, we hear about the night after Jesus’ tomb was discovered empty.  It is a story about one of the Apostles, who didn’t believe that Jesus actually rose from the dead.  Jesus’ friends gathered together in a locked room.  They were frightened and confused.  Remember that their great teacher had just been put to death as a criminal.  Probably the police were out looking for them, too.  Let’s pretend that we are Jesus’ friends together in that locked room and listen to what John has to tell us.

Jesus Appears to His Followers
19 It was the first day of the week. That evening Jesus’ followers were together. The doors were locked, because they were afraid of the Jews. Then Jesus came and stood among them. He said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. His followers were very happy when they saw the Lord.
21 Then Jesus said again, “Peace be with you! As the Father sent me, I now send you.” 22 After he said this, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven. If you don’t forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
Jesus Appears to Thomas
24 Thomas was one of the 12 disciples. He was also called Didymus. He was not with the other disciples when Jesus came. 25 So they told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “First I must see the nail marks in his hands. I must put my finger where the nails were. I must put my hand into his side. Only then will I believe.”
26 A week later, Jesus’ disciples were in the house again. Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came in and stood among them. He said, “May peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here. See my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen me but still have believed.”
Gospel of the Lord”
Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ”

Gospel Reflection.
Ask:  What happened?  <discuss> Did you hear anything about hands in this reading? <let someone retell the part about Thomas touching Jesus’ wounds>  Thomas used his hands to help him learn the truth.  Learning is one of the things we can do with our hands.
Do you know what sense your hand represents?  <touch>  What are the other senses? <sight, hearing, smell, taste>  We use our senses to tell us much about this world – and we allow Jesus to use our bodies <and our senses> to further his message of love.
When Jesus said:  “Blessed are those who believe without seeing”, who do you think he was talking about?  <us!>

Ask:  What do we do each week with our hands, at Mass, that shows peace and forgiveness?  <the sign of peace>
Say:  Let’s offer each other a sign of Christ’s peace.  <allow a few minutes for the sign of peace>

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
And the third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He shall come again to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading
Say: Today’s first reading is from the New Testament book called the Acts of the Apostles. (Acts 10:34a, 37-43)  It is a story that the Apostle Peter wrote to tell about what happened to Jesus.  Do you remember who the Apostles were?  <special friends of Jesus>  Jesus trusted them to share his special message of love.

Have three readers read the first reading.

Ask: If you were a child listening to Peter tell this story, how do you think you might have felt? <let the children share their feelings>

Acts 10:34
34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism
Acts 10:37-43
37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

The Tomb Is Empty
20 Early on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. It was still dark. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the entrance. 2 So she ran to Simon Peter and another disciple, the one Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb! We don’t know where they have put him!”
3 So Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. 4 Both of them were running. The other disciple ran faster than Peter. He reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there. But he did not go in.
6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him. He went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there.7 He also saw the funeral cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place. It was separate from the linen.
8 The disciple who had reached the tomb first also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.

Gospel Reflection.
Ask:  What do you think?  What would you think if you were one of the friends who discovered that Jesus’ body was missing?

ExplainJesus’ friends were still very sad when they came to his tomb that morning.  They must have been even more confused when his body was missing.  In the weeks that follow this one, Jesus appeared in flesh and blood to his friends several times.  They spent the weeks following Easter morning trying to understand the message Jesus had for them (and for us!)
