We are meant, to repent.
40 days of sacrifice,
Being super, extra nice,
This is
Lent. This is Lent.
Ask: Last week’s theme was <“Temptation”> A desire to do
something, especially something wrong or unwise. We remembered that Jesus is
wise.
Welcome; Today we hear a voice from the clouds saying
“This is my Son, the Beloved... Listen to him.” How do we listen to Jesus in our lives? Let’s think a bit more about
that today...
//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and
of the Holy Spirit,
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of
our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.

to pray for me to the Lord our God
Have Mercy on us oh
Lord
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, Oh Lord,
your mercy
And grant us your salvation.
You were sent to
heal the contrite of heart.

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of Genesis. In this
reading, God asks Abraham to do something amazing. Listen closely to hear what God asked and
think about how you would feel if you were Abraham…
A prepared child/children come and take the first reading or
second reading.
First Reading is from the book Genesis 12: 1-4.
The Call of
Abram
12. Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go
from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I
will show you. 2 I
will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name
great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those
who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the
families of the earth shall be blessed.”[a]
4 So Abram went, as
the Lord had
told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he
departed from Haran..
“This is the word of the Lord”
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask:
What did God ask Abraham to do?
<leave his home to create a new nation> If you were Abraham, how do you think you
would feel? Even if you were excited about creating a new nation, would it be easy
to leave your home behind?
Say: Let us
focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< Lord,
let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.......>3x.
Introduce the
Gospel
Say: Today’s Gospel
reading comes from the book of Matthew. This reading is about a time when Jesus
showed his closest friends, Peter, James and John that he really is God. He
wants them to have total faith (or trust) in him. Pretend that you are one of these men, Peter,
James or John, and followed Jesus to the mountaintop. Try to imagine what you would feel.
....
Now we will stand to
get ready to hear the Gospel
..with No Alleluia!! –J J
In lent period, we shall not
sing the ALLELUIA, BECAUSE it’s a time for us to reflect to be extra silent in
our life style.
Silently say: “Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I
may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel”.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord
Matthew 17:1-9 (NRSVCE)
The Transfiguration:
17
Six days later Jesus took with him Peter and the brothers James and John and
led them up a high mountain where they were alone. 2 As they looked on, a
change came over Jesus: his face was shining like the sun, and his clothes were
dazzling white. 3 Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah talking with
Jesus. 4 So Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, “Lord, how good it is that we are
here! If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses,
and one for Elijah.”
5
While he was talking, a shining cloud came over them, and a voice from the
cloud said, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased—listen to him!”
6
When the disciples heard the voice, they were so terrified that they threw
themselves face downward on the ground. 7 Jesus came to them and touched them.
“Get up,” he said. “Don't be afraid!” 8 So they looked up and saw no one there
but Jesus.
9 As
they came down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Don't tell anyone about this
vision you have seen until the Son of Man has been raised from death.”
The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you
Lord Jesus Christ”
==== 7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the
children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding
like in the suggestions below…
Gospel
reflection:
Ask: What did the Apostles see? <let the children discuss> Do you think they understood what they saw? <no>
What did Jesus ask them to do? <not to tell anyone until after he had been
raised from the dead>
Say:
At this time, they didn’t know anything about Jesus dying and being
raised from the dead. To obey Jesus
meant that they had to keep silent for a long time, maybe forever. They were asked
to trust in Jesus and depend on him.
Memory Verse: “Matthew 17:7 (“But Jesus
came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.”)
Let us stand up and we
profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I
believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator
of heaven and earth:
And
in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
--bow
down--
Who
was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered
under Pontius Pilate;
was
crucified, died and was buried:
He
descended into hell:
The
third day he rose again from the dead:
He
ascended into heaven,
and
sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From
there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I
believe in the Holy Spirit:
the
holy catholic church:
the
communion of saints:
The
forgiveness of sins:
The
resurrection of the body:
And
the life everlasting.
Amen.
