Entrance Song
On Christ the Solid Rock
1.         My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
2.         When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

Ask: What was last week’s theme? <Treasure.”> < We learnt the difference between what we think of as treasure—money, jewels—and the true treasure of God’s loveHeavenJ>
//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the New Testament book of 2nd Peter. (2 Peter 1:16-19) In this letter, St Peter is telling people—US! - about the time he went to mountain with Jesus and what he experienced.
A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

2 Peter 1:16-19 (GNT)

Eyewitnesses of Christ's Glory
16 We have not depended on made-up stories in making known to you the mighty coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. With our own eyes we saw his greatness. 17 We were there when he was given honor and glory by God the Father, when the voice came to him from the Supreme Glory, saying, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased!” 18 We ourselves heard this voice coming from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.

19 So we are even more confident of the message proclaimed by the prophets. You will do well to pay attention to it, because it is like a lamp shining in a dark place until the Day dawns and the light of the morning star shines in your hearts.
This is the word of the Lord;
All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What happened on the mountain? <He heard a voice form heaven telling them that Jesus was His son>  In his letter, St. Peter is telling us that this is real… that he was there and heard it himself.

Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< The Lord is king, the highest over all the earth.…> 3x

Introducing the Gospel
Say:
Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Matthew. (Matt 17:1-9) This reading tells us more about the experience Peter had.  Jesus wants them (and Us) to have total faith trust in him.  Pretend that you are one of these men, Peter, James or John, and followed Jesus to the mountaintop.  Try to imagine what you would feel.
....with Alleluia!! –
We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!
Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord...
Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord
Matthew 17:1-9 (GNT)
The Transfiguration

17 Six days later Jesus took with him Peter and the brothers James and John and led them up a high mountain where they were alone. 2 As they looked on, a change came over Jesus: his face was shining like the sun, and his clothes were dazzling white. 3 Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus. 4 So Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, “Lord, how good it is that we are here! If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

5 While he was talking, a shining cloud came over them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased—listen to him!”
6 When the disciples heard the voice, they were so terrified that they threw themselves face downward on the ground. 7 Jesus came to them and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don't be afraid!” 8 So they looked up and saw no one there but Jesus.

9 As they came down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Don't tell anyone about this vision you have seen until the Son of Man has been raised from death.”
“The Gospel of the Lord”
Glory and Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:
Ask: What did the Apostles see?  <let the children discuss>  Do you think they understood what they saw?  <no>  What did Jesus ask them to do?  <not to tell anyone until after he had been raised from the dead>

Say:  At this time, they didn’t know anything about Jesus dying and being raised from the dead.  To obey Jesus meant that they had to keep silent for a long time, maybe forever.  They were asked to trust in Jesus and depend on him.

Memory Verse: Mathew
“Matthew 17:3 “Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus.…..

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
