Theme: The Ten Commandments

                     ====  7:00 - 7:03 ====
Welcome: Today Jesus gives the disciples & us two commandments for how we should live our lives. Let’s think a bit more about them and how we can follow them now. Our theme is showing all the commandments.

                  ==== 7:00 - 7:03 ===
Entrance Song
Seek first the kingdom of heaven,
And all the rest will fall in line,
Give God his due, and God will give back to you Turn your water into wine.

Some men are money mad
Go about richly clad
Seeking the rainbow’s end
I tell you God He will surely ditch
All those among the rich
Who have no poor man friend

Some men are barely fed
Begging their crust of bread
From dawn to setting sun
I tell you God will give liberty
To those in poverty
A feast to everyone

Ask: What was last week’s theme? < A number 1...”>.  We talked about making sure that God is the Number 1 priority in our lives.  Sometimes we get so busy that we forget – but God always remembers us!

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
          -strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God…
Oh Lord Have Mercy
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.3
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?  AMEN.

Liturgy of the Word
Introduction of the first reading.
Today’s first(its actually the second) reading is from the first New Testament letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonian people, Is it easy to be good?  <sometimes> If you are good, if you behave the way you are supposed to, what happens to your friends around you?  <they see you and sometimes it helps them to be good, too> When we set a good example, others follow... A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

1 Thessalonians 1:5-8a (GNT)

5 For we brought the Good News to you, not with words only, but also with power and the Holy Spirit, and with complete conviction of its truth. You know how we lived when we were with you; it was for your own good. 6 You imitated us and the Lord; and even though you suffered much, you received the message with the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit. 7 So you became an example to all believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For not only did the message about the Lord go out from you throughout Macedonia and Achaia, but the news about your faith in God has gone everywhere. There is nothing, then, that we need to say.
This is the word of the Lord;
All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What did St. Paul tell you?  <let the children respond>  St. Paul talks about “telling you the good news”.  What is the “good news”?  The “good news” is information about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  When we say “good news” today, we are talking about the Gospels.
Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< I love you, Lord, my strength.....…> 3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say:  Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of St. Matthew, When Jesus was here on earth, He and His family belonged to a church just like you do.  He belonged to the Jewish religion.  The Jewish religion had a sacred Scripture, words from God – to help them know how to live.  This Scripture is part of our Bible too.  It is part of what we call the Old Testament.  In the Old Testament, we hear that God has told us many things over the years, many ways to live a good life.  Often, people misunderstood and did the wrong things anyway.…
...with Alleluia!! –
We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!
Chorus:    Halleluiah, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.
1.    Eyende mbele, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.
 2.   Moto, moto, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts:
-The Lord be with You,
-And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord

Matthew 22:34-40 (GNT)
The Great Commandment

34 When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they came together, 35 and one of them, a teacher of the Law, tried to trap him with a question. 36 “Teacher,” he asked, “which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and the most important commandment. 39 The second most important commandment is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ 40 The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
“The Gospel of the Lord”
All say “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”.

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and at children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:
Ask:  Which commandment did Jesus pick?  <LOVE>  Is LOVE one of the Commandments?  <not exactly>  How many commandments did God give Moses?  <10>  Jesus explained all of the commandments by telling how they were all about LOVE.

Say:  Your parent letter will list all 10 of the commandments.  Look at them carefully.  The first 3 commandments are all about loving God.  The next 7 commandments are all about loving other people.  So Jesus answered the priests truly without saying anything that would get him into trouble with them.
Say:  God doesn’t cause wars or problems for us.  God is the reason that we are happy.  If we put God first, everything else will fall where they belong!

Memory Verse:
“Matthew 22:37 “…. <“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”>....”. x3
Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

We pray for our neighbours around the world: that they may get a fair price for the things that they grow and that they may have all that they need to live..  We pray to the Lord....

Prayer 3. We pray for our parish, family and friends: that we may reach out in love to our neighbours around the world and do all we can to help make sure all people are treated fairly....
We pray to the Lord...
