Theme Number One

                     ====  7:00 - 7:03 ====
Welcome: Today we hear how some people tried to trick Jesus, but He was too clever for them!
What does it mean to win first place?  <to get the highest score, to be first out of all the players> What does it mean “to be Number 1”?  <to be the best!> Let us talk about who should be Number 1 in our lives.

                  ==== 7:00 - 7:03 ===
Entrance Song
Seek first the kingdom of heaven,
And all the rest will fall in line,
Give God his due, and God will give back to you Turn your water into wine.

Some men are money mad
Go about richly clad
Seeking the rainbow’s end
I tell you God He will surely ditch
All those among the rich
Who have no poor man friend

Some men are barely fed
Begging their crust of bread
From dawn to setting sun
I tell you God will give liberty
To those in poverty
A feast to everyone

Ask: What was last week’s theme? <A Cake...”>.  We talked about the life that God wants for all of us. And we leant that heaven is like a party God invites us to.  We discussed that He asks us all to join Him but we don’t always say YES!

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
          -strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God…
Oh Lord Have Mercy
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.3

Liturgy of the Word
Introduction of the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of the prophet Isaiah. God is talking to a man named Cyrus.  God did some wonderful things for Cyrus.  God is telling Cyrus (and us!) why we should praise Him. A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Isaiah 45:1, 4-6 (GNT)

The Lord Appoints Cyrus
45 The Lord has chosen Cyrus to be king.
He has appointed him to conquer nations;
    he sends him to strip kings of their power;
    the Lord will open the gates of cities for him. To Cyrus the Lord says,.”
4 I appoint you to help my servant Israel,
    the people that I have chosen.
I have given you great honor,
    although you do not know me.
5 “I am the Lord; there is no other god.
    I will give you the strength you need,
    although you do not know me.
6 I do this so that everyone
    from one end of the world to the other
    may know that I am the Lord
    and that there is no other god.
This is the word of the Lord;
All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: Did you hear any reason why Cyrus should praise God?  <God helped him conquer other nations, God helped him remove other kings from power, God made Cyrus strong>  Why should we praise God?  <help children respond – Because God helps us to be strong, God gives us people to love us and food to eat, God made the world for us, God sent Jesus for us>

Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< Give the Lord glory and honor....…> 3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say: Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Matthew, It tells us that;
Many times while Jesus was talking and teaching, important Jews would try to trick Him and get Him to say something that would hurt Him or prove Him to be a liar. Today we hear that, some Jewish priests were trying to get Jesus to say something bad about the Roman ruler, who was called an Emperor.  Listen and see what Jesus says to them…
...with Alleluia!! –
We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!
Chorus:    Halleluiah, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.
1.    Eyende mbele, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.
 2.   Moto, moto, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts:
-The Lord be with You,
-And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord

Matthew 22:15-21 (GNT)
The Question about Paying Taxes

15 The Pharisees went off and made a plan to trap Jesus with questions. 16 Then they sent to him some of their disciples and some members of Herod's party. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you tell the truth. You teach the truth about God's will for people, without worrying about what others think, because you pay no attention to anyone's status. 17 Tell us, then, what do you think? Is it against our Law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor, or not?”

18 Jesus, however, was aware of their evil plan, and so he said, “You hypocrites! Why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin for paying the tax!”

They brought him the coin, 20 and he asked them, “Whose face and name are these?”

21 “The Emperor's,” they answered.

So Jesus said to them, “Well, then, pay to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and pay to God what belongs to God.”
“The Gospel of the Lord”
All say “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”.

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and at children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:
Ask:  What did Jesus tell the Jewish priests?  <to give to the Emperor what belongs to him and to give to God what belongs to God> What do you think that means?  <discuss> If Jesus said something bad about the Emperor, the priest would have had him put in jail.  Jesus knew this and wanted to remind them that God is Number 1.

Say:  God doesn’t cause wars or problems for us.  God is the reason that we are happy.  If we put God first, everything else will fall where they belong!

Memory Verse:
“Matthew 22:21 “…. < “So Jesus said to them, “Well, then, pay to the Emperor what belongs to the Emperor, and pay to God what belongs to God”.>....”. x3
Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

====  7:24 - 7:26 ====
