Liturgy of
the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is
from the Old Testament book of job. Job was a good man who had a lot of bad
things happen to him. At first he spent a lot of time being angry with God and
then trying to understand why so many bad things happened, everything goes
right with Job BUT today’s reading is about a time when he was very
unhappy. Listen to Job’s prayer to God
and see if you can understand how he felt.
A prepared child/children come and take the
first reading or second reading.
Job
7:1-4, 6-7 (GNT)
Job prays to God while so Sad.
1 Human life is like forced army service,
like a life of hard manual
labor,
2 like a slave longing for
cool shade;
like a worker waiting to be
paid.
3 Month after month I have nothing to live for;
night after night brings me
grief.
4 When I lie down to sleep, the hours drag;
I toss all night and long for
dawn. 6 My days pass by without hope,
pass faster than a weaver's
shuttle.[a]
7 Remember, O God, my life is only a breath;
my happiness has already
ended.
.’
“This is the word of the Lord”
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask: What kind of condition is Job’s heart in? <it
is broken> Can you think of
something that Job might would do to make himself feel better? <let
the children recount activities>
Do you think that God wants us to lie around and be sad all the
time? <NO> We need to try to
make ourselves feel better. Often we can
get up and do some work for others and that helps US.
Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< Praise
the Lord, who heals the broken-hearted.....>3x.
Introduce the
Gospel
Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Mark. At the time
that Job lived, and during the time Jesus lived, people believed that bad
things only happened to bad people. That
was one reason that Job was so upset, because he was good with God. When Jesus
came along, and spent a lot of his time with people who had problems, people
the world considered BAD, no one understood.
Jesus came to tell us that we all have problems, good people and bad
people and made miracles and healed both bad and good people.
Now we will stand to get ready to hear the Gospel
..with Alleluia!! – OR
Welcome the
Gospel through a song. J J
CHORUS: (‘Halle, halle, halle’ ( It’s a Caribbean Chorus)
Halle, halle, halle, lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!!
Silently say:” Cleanse my heart and my lips,
almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The
Leader starts: The Lord be with
You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the
Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to
You, O Lord
Mark 1:29-31 (GNT)
Please note, the reading was
Jesus Heals Many People
29 Jesus and his disciples, including James and
John, left the synagogue and went straight to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30
Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and as soon as Jesus
arrived, he was told about her. 31 He went to her, took her by the hand, and
helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to wait on them.
32 After the sun had set and evening had come,
people brought to Jesus all the sick and those who had demons. 33 All the
people of the town gathered in front of the house. 34 Jesus healed many who
were sick with all kinds of diseases and drove out many demons. He would not let
the demons say anything, because they knew who he was.
The Gospel
of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
==== 7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared interesting story according to the Gospel and
children’s level of understanding like in the…
Gospel reflection:
Ask: Jesus laid his hands on people and performed miracles. Why do you think he did that? <to solve a person’s problem>. Often
there was a physical problem, like with Simon’s mother-in-law, and many times,
the person was also very sad. Jesus
forgave sins and helped the people to live good lives again.
Memory Verse: “Mark 1:31 (…..“31 He went to her, took her by the
hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to wait on them...”)
Let us stand up and we profess our
faith.
Profession of
our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten
Son, our Lord:
--bow
down--
Who was conceived by the power of the
Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the
dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the
Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the
living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting. Amen.
