Preparing the worship
space
Colour: Green
Theme: Bible
Welcome:
Today we hear
Jesus telling the people that it is not enough to say that we believe in God if
we are also doing things without really thinking about what they mean. Instead
we have to show that we love God through our actions, reading the bible and by
being the best people we can be…
Ask: Last week you must have heard about? <“ seeds and flowers.” > it’s the Faith we have that we believe
that seeds will grow into flowers/plants …

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our
sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to
do
-strike
the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God…
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.
You were sent to heal the contrite of
heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy
You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy
You are seated at the right hand of
the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?
AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
The first reading is from the book of
Deuteronomy in the Old Testament, (Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8). It tells about what Moses said about the laws
that God gave the Israelites. Does
anyone remember what we call the laws that God gave Moses? <the Commandments>Moses reminded the
Israelites that they had <as we have> a special God who is very close to
us and tells us exactly how to be close to Him..
A prepared child/children come and take the reading.
Deuteronomy
4:1-2, 6-8
Moses Urges Israel to Be Obedient
4 Then Moses said to the people, “Obey all the laws
that I am teaching you, and you will live and occupy the land which the Lord,
the God of your ancestors, is giving you. 2 Do not add anything to
what I command you, and do not take anything away. Obey the commands of the
Lord your God that I have given you. 6 Obey them faithfully, and
this will show the people of other nations how wise you are. When they hear of
all these laws, they will say, ‘What wisdom and understanding this great nation
has!’
7 “No other nation, no matter how
great, has a god who is so near when they need him as the Lord our God is to
us. He answers us whenever we call for help. 8 No other nation, no
matter how great, has laws so just as those that I have taught you today..
“This
is the word of the Lord”
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask: What did God say about the Commandments? <that there are no laws anywhere that are
more fair> God’s laws are the best laws because they are the most just/fair.
Say: Let us now focus
on our responsorial Psalm:
< The just will live in
the presence of the Lord...> x3
Introducing
the Gospel
Say: Now it’s time to read the Gospel.
Today’s Gospel reading was written by St. Mark. (Mark 7:1-5, 14-15,
21-23). St. Mark tells us about how some
people didn’t understand what Jesus had to say.
They were concerned because Jesus didn’t care whether His followers
followed certain social customs.
...with Alleluia!! –
We sing while standing and
welcome the gospel!!
CHORUS: (‘Halle, halle,
halle’ (Caribbean))
Halle, halle, halle, lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we
may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel”.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark.
Glory to You, O Lord
Mark 7:1-5,
14-15, 21-23
The
Teaching of the Ancestors
1 Some Pharisees and teachers of the Law who had come from Jerusalem
gathered around Jesus. 2 They noticed that some of his disciples
were eating their food with hands that were ritually unclean—that is, they had
not washed them in the way the Pharisees said people should.
(3
For the Pharisees, as well as the rest of the Jews, follow the teaching they
received from their ancestors: they do not eat unless they wash their hands in
the proper way; 4 nor do they eat anything that comes from the market
unless they wash it first. And they follow many other rules which they have
received, such as the proper way to wash cups, pots, copper bowls, and beds.)
5 So the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law asked Jesus, “Why is
it that your disciples do not follow the teaching handed down by our ancestors,
but instead eat with ritually unclean hands?”
The
Things That Make a Person Unclean
14 Then Jesus called the crowd to him once more and said to them,
“Listen to me, all of you, and understand. 15 There is nothing that
goes into you from the outside which can make you ritually unclean. Rather, it
is what comes out of you that makes you unclean.”
21 For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which
lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill, 22 commit adultery, be
greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander,
pride, and folly— 23 all these evil things come from inside you and
make you unclean.”
”The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord
Jesus Christ”
==== 7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but
according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the
suggestions below…
Gospel
reflection:
Say: Does anyone here ever get in trouble for not
following certain rules? Like maybe... talking with your mouth full? Or forgetting to wash your hands before you
come to the table? Here is my question: does this make you a bad person? or perhaps just a forgetful one?
Explain: The people who were listening
to Jesus didn’t understand why His disciples didn’t all follow the same customs
that the Jews did. The Jews felt that
everyone needed to follow these customs in order to please God. Jesus
replied that customs do not make a person good or bad. Their behavior, what they do and why they do
it, is what God will use to judge them.
Memory
Verse: Mark 7:15
There is nothing that goes into you from the outside which can
make you ritually unclean. Rather, it is what comes out of you that makes you
unclean.”
Let us stand up and we profess our
faith.
Profession of our faith
I
believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator
of heaven and earth:
And
in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
--bow
down--
Who
was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered
under Pontius Pilate;
was
crucified, died and was buried:
He
descended into hell:
The
third day he rose again from the dead:
He
ascended into heaven,
and
sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From
there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I
believe in the Holy Spirit:
the
holy catholic church:
the
communion of saints:
The
forgiveness of sins:
The
resurrection of the body:
And
the life everlasting.
Amen.
