Entrance Song
O come, O
come, Emmanuel
And ransom
captive Israel
That mourns
in lonely exile here
Until the Son
of God appear
Rejoice!
Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come
to thee, O Israel.
O come, Thou
Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own
from Satan's tyranny
From depths
of Hell Thy people save
And give
them victory o'er the grave
Rejoice!
Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come
to thee, O Israel.
Explain: Today is
the 1st Sunday in Advent and it
marks the new Liturgical Year A.
Ask: Does anyone remember the theme for last
week? <Crown representing Jesus Christ the King of the
Universe>
Welcome; Advent is a special time when we get
ready for the coming of Jesus. It is very exciting when we know that someone is
coming to visit us. We make sure that we are ready when they come.
Say: Today’s
theme is a house. What
is a house?
Explain: A house is <for us to live in> Is
anyone here going to have company for the holidays? <let the children answer>. What do you do to get ready? <clean straighten, buy food, etc.> We need to do the same kinds of things
for “the house of the Lord”.
Leader: Lead the children to mention the Advent wreath, like the color purple, the four candles, and any
decorations that your church uses to mark the season of Advent.
Ask: This
season, is a time we prepare for what feast?
<Christmas—the birth of Christ>
Explain: We take this time to prepare for the coming
of Christ.
//V// In the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The
Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love
of God,
And the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you
all.

Liturgy of
the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the second book
of Isaiah
2:1-5
Explain: Isaiah had a vision and he mentioned the
“house of the Lord”. Let’s
listen closely to see if we can figure out which “house” he SAID and which
“house” he MEANT.
A prepared
child/children come and take\ the first reading or second reading.
The first reading is from the old book of Isaiah 2:1-5 (NRSVCE)
The
Future House of God
2 The word that Isaiah son of
Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 In days to
come
the mountain of the Lord’s house
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be raised above the hills;
all the nations shall stream to it.
3 Many peoples shall come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob;
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth instruction,
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge between the nations,
and shall arbitrate for many peoples;
they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more.
the mountain of the Lord’s house
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be raised above the hills;
all the nations shall stream to it.
3 Many peoples shall come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob;
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth instruction,
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge between the nations,
and shall arbitrate for many peoples;
they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more.
Judgment Pronounced on Arrogance
5 O house of
Jacob,
come, let us walk
in the light of the Lord!
come, let us walk
in the light of the Lord!
“This is the word of the Lord”
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask: What did you hear? <discuss>
Explain: The house that Isaiah mentioned first was the
temple. Which house is that? What is a temple? <like
our church house> Then he goes on
to talk about what it will be like when God is here on earth.
Let us focus on
our responsorial Psalm:
< Let
us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord....>3x.
Introduce the
Gospel
In
the gospel today, Matthew tells us about a time that Jesus spoke with his
disciples about the time when he would return to us. He talks about the way people will act at
that time—and he refers to an Old Testament story that you all probably
know. Listen closely for two things: the Old Testament story and the
reference to a house. After we hear the Gospel, we will see if we
can decide what it means in our own lives.
Now we will stand
to get ready to hear the Gospel
..with Alleluia!! – OR
Welcome the Gospel through a song.
Chorus:
Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah!
Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah!
Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
!!
Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may
worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The
Leader starts: The Lord
be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to
St. Luke.
Glory to
You, O Lord
Matthew 24:37-44 (NRSVCE)
37 For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of
Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and
drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, 39 and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all
away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be
left. 41 Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and
one will be left.42 Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day[a] your Lord is coming. 43 But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what
part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would
not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the
Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.
The Gospel
of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
==== 7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*)Tell your prepared interesting story according to
the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the
Gospel reflection:
Ask: Why
Noah? Why did this story get
mentioned? <because Jesus was describing how people would be acting when he
returned to earth.> And what did Jesus mean when he talked about people
guarding their house against thieves?
<He meant that one never knew
when a robber would come.> You have to be ready. We have to make our hearts ready for when
Jesus comes, because we don’t know when that will be.
Memory Verse:
“Matthew 24:44 ( “Therefore you also must be ready, for
the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour..”)
Let us stand up and we
profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
--bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin
Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting. Amen.
