Colour: Green

Theme: The Holy Bible.

Entrance Song:

Let there be love shared among us.

Let there be love that is real,

Let all this love sweep this nation; Cause us oh Lord, to arise!

Give us afresh understanding of brotherly love, that is real,

Let there be love shared among us,

Let there be Love..

Welcome;

Today we hear the story of two men, one of whom is rich and feasts every day on good food. The other man, Lazarus, is poor and he longs for something to eat. This story helps us to see how we should treat one another. Let’s think a bit more about this today..

Memory Verse:

Luke 16:31(If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone were to rise from death.’ …)

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

And the love of God,

Liturgy of the Word

First Reading, Introduce the reading.

Say: Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament, the book of Amos.

Explain: First of all, does anybody know what the word Distraction means?  <Spoil, being unable to understand> Let’s see if we can understand what that might mean.

A prepared child comes and takes the first reading or second reading.

The first reading today is taken from the letter of Amos 6:1,4-7(GNT)

The Destruction of Israel

How terrible it will be for you that have such an easy life in Zion and for you that feel safe in Samaria—you great leaders of this great nation Israel, you to whom the people go for help!

How terrible it will be for you that stretch out on your luxurious couches, feasting on veal and lamb! You like to compose songs, as David did, and play them on harps. You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest perfumes, but you do not mourn over the ruin of Israel. So you will be the first to go into exile. Your feasts and banquets will come to an end.

This is the word of the Lord

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:

< Praise the Lord oh my soul….>3x.

Introduce the Gospel

Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Luke.  (Luke 16:19-31) It is a teaching story that Jesus told the people who were listening to him.  Do you remember the name of the stories that Jesus taught with?  <parables>  It is a story about a man who didn’t pay attention to the people around him.  He did not take the time to listen to God’s message.  Pretend that you are one of Jesus’ disciples and hearing this story for the first time.  Think about what Jesus is saying to you.

Or, if you can, instead of reading the gospel for children, please show this video below to them, its illustrations are good.(copy and paste in browser)

 Welcoming the Gospel

..with Alleluia!! - OR

Welcome the Gospel through a song.

Chorus:

Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah!Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah! Halle, halle, halle-lu-jah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!!!

Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Lord be with You,

AND with your Spirit.

The Gospel Reading was written by Luke 16:19-31

 (GNT)

Let Lord’s Word be in my mind <make a cross on forehead>, and on my lips <make a cross on lips>, and in my heart <make a cross on the left side of the chest> *OR

Glory to You O Lord

Luke 16:19-24 (GNT)

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

The Gospel of the Lord”

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

  ====  7:19 - 7:24 ====

(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the

Gospel reflection:

Say:  What happened?  <let the children re-tell the story>  Why didn’t Abraham let Lazarus go back and tell the others about what happened?  <because he said that no one would listen> What do you think?  Do you think that we have enough information about how we need to act toward others? Where do we learn about showing love toward other people?

The Bible, Parents, teachers and other responsible persons.

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

                  --bow down--

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

was crucified, died and was buried:

He descended into hell:

The third day he rose again from the dead:

He ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From there He will come to judge the leaving and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Spirit:

the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting.

Amen.

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament, the book of Wisdom.
Explain: First of all, does anybody know what the word WISDOM means?  <Knowledge, being able to understand> this reading compares wisdom to Treasure.  Let’s see if we can understand what that might mean.
A prepared child comes and takes the first reading or second reading.

The first reading today is taken from the letter of Amos 8:4-7(GNT)

Israel's Doom

Listen to this, you that trample on the needy and try to destroy the poor of the country. You say to yourselves, “We can hardly wait for the holy days to be over so that we can sell our grain. When will the Sabbath end, so that we can start selling again? Then we can overcharge, use false measures, and fix the scales to cheat our customers. We can sell worthless wheat at a high price. We'll find someone poor who can't pay his debts, not even the price of a pair of sandals, and we'll buy him as a slave.”
The Lord, the God of Israel, has sworn, “I will never forget their evil deeds.

This is the word of the Lord
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor.!...>3x.

Introduce the Gospel
Say:  In this passage from Luke, Jesus talks about trust.  What is trust?  <believing in someone> How do you know when you can trust someone?  <when they do what they say they will do, when they keep their promises>  Jesus wants us to be trustworthy people.  He wants others to be able to trust us.  Do you think it is easy to always keep your promises?  Let’s listen to what Jesus says about people who can be trusted.

Glory to You O Lord

Luke 16:10-13 (GNT)

10 Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones; whoever is dishonest in small matters will be dishonest in large ones. 11 If, then, you have not been faithful in handling worldly wealth, how can you be trusted with true wealth?12 And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what belongs to you?
13 “No servant can be the slave of two masters; such a slave will hate one and love the other or will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
The Gospel of the Lord”

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
  ====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the
Gospel reflection:

Ask:  What did Jesus say? <discuss> Did He say that you can be trustworthy about some things but not others?  <no, you must keep all your promises- even the little ones>  Do you think that it will take some effort to be truly trustworthy?<Yes>

Say:  Jesus said that you cannot serve two masters.  He spoke about choosing between serving God and serving money.  What do you think that means?  <it means that you have to decide which is more important – the things that God wants or the things that we want>

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
