Liturgy of the Word

First Reading

Does any one of us know what God is thinking or  what he has planned? <no> Do you think we  should understand the will of God? <discuss>  Would it make life easier or harder if we knew  everything? <discuss> Let’s listen to the reading  from the Book of Wisdom and see if we can figure  out what we are supposed to know.

Now give to the child to start reading the first reading  below.

Today’s first reading is from the old Testament of Wisdom 9:13-18 (NRSVCE)

13 For who can learn the counsel of God? Or who can discern what the Lord wills? 14 For the reasoning of people is worthless, and our designs are likely to fail;

15 for a perishable body weighs down the soul, and this earthy tent burdens the thoughtful[a] mind. 16 We can hardly guess at what is on earth, and what is at hand we find with labor;

but who has traced out what is in the heavens? 17 Who has learned your counsel,

unless you have given wisdom

and sent your holy spirit from on high?

18 And thus the paths of those on earth were set  right, and people were taught what pleases you, and were saved by wisdom

”This is the word of the Lord, …

Ask: Who came to earth from heaven to help  us understand? <the Holy Spirit> We  celebrated his coming a few weeks ago at a

feast. Does anyone remember the name of the  feast? <Pentecost>

Responsorial Psalm

In every age, O Lord, you have been  our refuge.

Introducing the Gospel

When we see a cross, we think of Jesus’  sacrifice for us. If I were to tell you that we all  have crosses, what do you think that they  might be? <problems, pain, worries,  etc.> Does anyone here have any

crosses? <discuss> Can we explain why some  people have more problems than others? Is it  always their fault? <not really> But we each  have our own lives and we each have our own  set of joys and troubles. Jesus had something  to say about our crosses.

..with Alleluia!! -,

Welcoming the Gospel;

Helle Halle Halle llu….

Silently say:” Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty  God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel to  your little children.

The Lord be with You,

AND with your Spirit

The Gospel reading is from the book  of...” Luke 14:25-27 (NRSVCE)

Glory to You, O Lord.

The Cost of Being a Disciple

25 Once when large crowds of people were  going along with Jesus, he turned and said  to them, 26 “Those who come to me cannot  be my disciples unless they love me more  than they love father and mother, wife and  children, brothers and sisters, and  themselves as well. 27 Those who do not  carry their own cross and come after me  cannot be my disciples. 28 If one of you is  planning to build a tower, you sit down first  and figure out what it will cost, to see if you  have enough money to finish the job. 29 If  you don't, you will not be able to finish the  tower after laying the foundation; and all  who see what happened will make fun of  you. 30 ‘You began to build but can't finish  the job!’ they will say. 31 If a king goes out  with ten thousand men to fight another king  who comes against him with twenty  thousand men, he will sit down first and  decide if he is strong enough to face that  other king. 32 If he isn't, he will send  messengers to meet the other king to ask  for terms of peace while he is still a long way  off. 33 In the same way,” concluded Jesus,  “none of you can be my disciple unless you  give up everything you have.

“The Gospel of the Lord”,

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

(*)Tell an interesting story according to the

Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in  the Gospel reflection:

==== 7:24 - 7:27 ====

Gospel Reflection.

Ask: So what did you hear Jesus say?  <discuss> Do you think He understands  about our crosses? <yes, He came to be  one of us so that He could understand  how it feels to be a person.> He knows  what it’s like to be hurt or to be sad.

Say: He understands, but He expects us  to handle our problems. He expects us  to try our best to be good people even  when things go wrong for us.

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,  Creator of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten  Son, our Lord: --bow down--

Who was conceived by the power of the  Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

was crucified, died and was buried:  He descended into hell:

And the third day He rose again from  the dead: He ascended into heaven,  and seated at the right hand of God the  Father Almighty:

From there He shall come again to judge  the leaving and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Spirit:

the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting. Amen
