Welcome;
Today we hear about a bad judge and a widow who would not give up. And Jesus teaches us the importance of justice, of praying and of never giving up hope. Let's find out more.

Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the old testament book of (Exodus 17:8-13).
Explain: It is a story about prophet Moses at war with the Amalekites. 11 As long as Moses held up his arms, the Israelites, won...!! Listen closely and hear what happens when his arms got tired..
A prepared child comes and takes the first reading or second reading.

War with the Amalekites
8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Pick out some men to go and fight the Amalekites tomorrow. I will stand on top of the hill holding the stick that God told me to carry.” 10 Joshua did as Moses commanded him and went out to fight the Amalekites, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.11 As long as Moses held up his arms, the Israelites won, but when he put his arms down, the Amalekites started winning.12 When Moses' arms grew tired, Aaron and Hur brought a stone for him to sit on, while they stood beside him and held up his arms, holding them steady until the sun went down. 13 In this way Joshua totally defeated the Amalekites.

Ask: What happened when Prophet Moses put down his arms? <The Israelites would lose the war> Why would they win, when Moses does that? <While in the desert, God gave unique powers to Moses so that His special people would be protected. How did Joshua with the Israelites win that battle? Aaron and Hur brought a stone for him to sit on, while they stood beside him and held up his arms, holding them steady until the sun went down. 13 In this way Joshua totally defeated the Amalekites

Introduce the Gospel
Today’s Gospel reading is taken from the book of Luke, Jesus tells a parable about praying and never giving up. He tells about a woman that feels that she was unfairly treated. She kept talking to the person in charge until he finally did the right thing for her.
Jesus tells us that if people who are not very nice can still do the right thing – even if it is for the wrong reason – how much more will God do for us because he loves us? Let’s see if that is what you hear in this reading.

The Parable of the Widow and the Judge
18 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to teach them that they should always pray and never become discouraged.2 “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected people. 3 And there was a widow in that same town who kept coming to him and pleading for her rights, saying, ‘Help me against my opponent!’ 4 For a long time the judge refused to act, but at last he said to himself, ‘Even though I don't fear God or respect people, 5 yet because of all the trouble this widow is giving me, I will see to it that she gets her rights. If I don't, she will keep on coming and finally wear me out!’”
6 And the Lord continued, “Listen to what that corrupt judge said. 7 Now, will God not judge in favor of his own people who cry to him day and night for help? Will he be slow to help them? 8 I tell you, he will judge in their favor and do it quickly. But will the Son of Man find faith on earth when he comes?”

What do you think? Don’t you think God loves you as much as your parents do? He always listens to your prayers – even if his answers are not the ones you are looking for. What happens on the phone if you put down the receiver? <no more communication> To be open to God, we need to keep the line of communication open. We need to keep listening even if we don’t like what we are hearing
