God revealed to St. Peter who Jesus was and PETER was made the

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
Today’s
first reading is from the letter of St. Paul to the Romans. St. Paul reminds us
today that all knowledge comes from God. We are simply human and make lots of
human mistakes. When we are trying hard to do what God asks, we are supported
by all God’s wisdom. God makes us stronger than we think we are. Let’s
hear what St. Paul wrote to the Romans.
A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Praise to God
33 How great are God's riches!
How deep are his wisdom and knowledge! Who can explain his decisions? Who can
understand his ways? 34 As the scripture says,
“Who knows the mind of the Lord?
Who is able to give him advice?
35 Who has ever given him anything, so that he had to pay it
back?”36 For all things were created by him, and all things exist
through him and for him. To God be the glory forever! Amen.
This is the word of the Lord;

Ask: Can anyone tell me this? In the reading, St. Paul said that anything that came from God does something else. What was it? <Returned to God>

Introducing the Gospel
Say:Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Matthew. It says; Jesus is walking along with His disciples. Jesus asked them what the people say about Him. Jesus pushed a little further and asked the disciples what they thought He was. One man answered... Let’s listen to their conversation and see who answered and what happened next...

Peter's Declaration about Jesus
13 Jesus went to the territory near the town of Caesarea Philippi, where he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”14 “Some say John the Baptist,” they answered. “Others say Elijah, while others say Jeremiah or some other prophet.”
15 “What about you?” he asked them. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 “Good for you, Simon son of John!” answered Jesus. “For this truth did not come to you from any human being, but it was given to you directly by my Father in heaven. 18 And so I tell you, Peter: you are a rock, and on this rock foundation I will build my church, and not even death will ever be able to overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven; what you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and what you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”
20 Then Jesus ordered his disciples not to tell
anyone that he was the Messier.

Gospel reflection:
Ask: Which man gave the right answer to Jesus? <Peter> What did Peter answer? <that Jesus was the Son of God> Then what happened? <Jesus told him that he was blessed> Did Peter figure out about Jesus all by himself? No, it was God that reveled it to him
Say: In the first reading, we heard that “everything comes from God”. God helped Peter to understand just like God helps us to understand. Jesus called Peter a “rock” and said that “upon this rock, I will build my church”. What might this mean? <discuss>
Say: Peter was a man of strong faith – just like rocks are strong. St. Peter was the first pope, the first leader of our church who was chosen by God. Who is our pope today?
Memory Verse:
“Matthew 16:18” And so I tell you, Peter: you are a rock, and on this rock foundation I will build my church,…..”.
Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
