Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B) - 14 June
2015
Colour: Green
Props: mustard seeds
We
are beginning another season today, the season of Ordinary Time. We
aren’t preparing for any special feast right now. We are simply learning
about God’s word and trying to figure out how it applies to our lives—ordinary
time

Entrance Song:
Chorus
Bring
Forth the kingdom of God…..
Welcome; Today we hear about a tiny little seed. But when it is
planted it grows into a big bush with branches big enough for all the birds to
come and sit in. Let’s think a bit more about Jesus was trying to say with this
story.
Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< Lord, it is good to give thanks to you..>
//V// In the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The
Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R// And with Your
Spirit.

God's Promise
of Hope
22 This is what
the Sovereign Lord says:
“I will take the top of a tall cedar
and break off a tender sprout;
I will plant it on a high mountain,
23 on Israel's highest mountain.
It will grow branches and bear seed
and become a magnificent/Eminent cedar.
Birds of every kind will live there
and find shelter in its shade.
24 All the trees in the land will know
that I am the Lord.
I cut down the tall trees
and make small trees grow tall.
I wither up the green trees
and make the dry trees become green.
and break off a tender sprout;
I will plant it on a high mountain,
23 on Israel's highest mountain.
It will grow branches and bear seed
and become a magnificent/Eminent cedar.
Birds of every kind will live there
and find shelter in its shade.
24 All the trees in the land will know
that I am the Lord.
I cut down the tall trees
and make small trees grow tall.
I wither up the green trees
and make the dry trees become green.
I, the Lord, have spoken. I will do what I have said I would do.”

Mark
4:26-34
And at the end, say “The Gospel of the Lord” and all repeat “Glory and
praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ”
The Parable
of the Growing Seed
26 Jesus went on
to say, “The Kingdom of God is like this. A man scatters seed in his field.27 He sleeps at night, is up and about during the day, and all the
while the seeds are sprouting and growing. Yet he does not know how it happens. 28 The soil
itself makes the plants grow and bear fruit; first the tender stalk appears,
then the head, and finally the head full of grain. 29 When the
grain is ripe, the man starts cutting it with his sickle, because harvest time
has come.
The Parable
of the Mustard Seed
30 “What shall
we say the Kingdom of God is like?” asked Jesus. “What parable shall we use to
explain it? 31 It is like this. A man takes a
mustard seed, the smallest seed in the world, and plants it in the ground. 32 After a while
it grows up and becomes the biggest of all plants. It puts out such large
branches that the birds come and make their nests in its shade.” 33 Jesus
preached his message to the people, using many other parables like these; he
told them as much as they could understand. 34 He would not
speak to them without using parables, but when he was alone with his disciples,
he would explain everything to them.
Gospel of the
Lord”
“Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ”
(*)Tell an interesting story according to
the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the
Gospel reflection:
==== 7:24 - 7:27 ====
In today’s gospel, Jesus is trying to
show us what God’s Kingdom is like. It’s not easy to describe, so instead he
tells us stories so that we can try to imagine it.
Both the stories he tells are about
seeds. We’re going to think about the story of the mustard seed. What do you
remember about this story?
The mustard seed is a tiny little seed. You could show the children mustard seeds
so that they can see just how small they are.
But it grows into a very big bush with
very big branches. Big enough for birds to be able to come and sit in and get
out of the sun.
So what do you think Jesus is trying to
tell us?
Perhaps it’s that, size doesn’t matter –
even the tiniest seed can produce a great big tree. And the same is true for us
– even the smallest person can do great things. And even the smallest action
can have big results.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father,
Almighty,
creater of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only
begotten Son, our Lord:
--bow down--
Who was conceived by the
power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius
Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again
from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of
God the Father Almighty:
From thence he shall come to
judge the quick and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
