Welcome;
Ask: Does anyone remember what our theme was for last Sunday? (flower and seed)  And what did it symbolize? (it symbolized the FAITH given to us by God that we have to nourish and take care of so that it will grow)
ExplainToday is the Twenty-second Sunday of Ordinary Time.
Explain: In order to try and understand what Jesus had to say, we must pay attention to His word and the bible is where we find it.

Explain:  We have been talking about the new way of thinking that Jesus had been telling people about.  The things He had to say sounded really strange to the people who were listening.  It didn’t seem to make much sense.  Many people left Him.  Some tried to trick Him.  Today’s Gospel is about one of those times.
//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
            -strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.

May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading
A prepared child comes to takes the first reading or second reading..
Say: The first reading is from the book of Deuteronomy in the Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures. (Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8)  It tells about what Moses said about the laws that God gave the Israelites.  Does anyone remember what we call the laws that God gave Moses?  <the Commandments>  Can anyone tell us one of the Commandments?
Moses reminded the Israelites that they had <as we have> a special God who is very close to us and tells us exactly how to be close to Him.

The first reading today is taken from the letter of Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8International Children’s Bible (ICB)

Moses Tells Israel to Obey

Now, Israel, listen to the laws and commands I will teach you. Obey them so you will live. Then you will go over and take the land. The Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving it to you. Don’t add to these commands. And don’t leave anything out. But obey the commands of the Lord your God that I give you. Obey these laws carefully. This will show the other nations that you have wisdom and understanding. They will hear about these laws. And they will say, “This great nation of Israel is wise and understanding.” No other nation is as great as we are. Their gods do not come near them. But the Lord our God comes near when we pray to him. And no other nation has such good teachings and commands. I am giving them to you today.
 This is the word of the Lord
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< One who does justice, will live in the presence of the Lord.....> Repeat 3x.
In today’s Gospel Reading, we are going to hear how the Pharisees and the teachers of the law said to Jesus, “Your followers don’t follow the rules given to us by our great people who lived before us. Your followers eat their food with hands that are not clean.  And they asked Jesus, Why do they do this?”
Please listen carefully but first, we welcome the gospel.

Welcoming the Gospel
..with Alleluia!! -
Welcoming the Gospel
Chorus:    Halleluiah, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.
1.    Eyende mbele, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.
 2.   Moto, moto, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah
Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim3 your Holy Gospel.

We are going to do something that everyone does in the big church Lord, let your Word be in my mind <make a cross on forehead>, on my lips <make a cross on lips>, and in my heart <make a cross on the left side of the chest>

The Lord be with You,
AND with your Spirit.
The Gospel Reading was written by Mark..

Mark 7:14-15,21-23 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

14 Jesus called the people to him again. He said, “Every person should listen to me and understand what I am saying. 15 There is nothing a person puts into his body that makes him unclean. A person is made unclean by the things that come out of him.
21 All these evil things begin inside a person, in the mind: evil thoughts, sexual immorality, stealing, murder, adultery, 22 selfishness, doing bad things to other people, lying, doing sinful things, jealousy, saying bad things about people, pride, and foolish living. 23 All these evil things come from within a person. These things make a person unclean.”

.The Gospel of the Lord”
“Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ”
(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the Gospel reflection:
   ====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
Ask:  Does anyone here ever get in trouble for not following certain rules?  Like maybe... talking with your mouth full?  Or forgetting to wash your hands before you come to the table?  What are some other examples?  Here is my question: Does this make you a bad person?  or perhaps just a forgetful one?
Explain:  The people who were listening to Jesus didn’t understand why His disciples didn’t all follow the same customs that the Jews did.  The Jews felt that everyone needed to follow these customs in order to please God.  Jesus replied that customs do not make a person good or bad. Their behavior, what they do and why they do it, is what God will use to judge them.

Let us stand up to profess our faith
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
                  --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the leaving  and the
dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

Children’s liturgy – Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B) –
23rd August 2015
Colour: Green
Theme: Seed and Flower.
Bring a flower and a seed.
                     ====  7:00 - 7:03 ====
Entrance Song:
Chorus
I have decided, to follow Jesus,
I have decided, to follow Jesus,
I have decided, to follow Jesus,
Oh! No turning back, no turning back!

Welcome;
Ask: If you plant a seed in the ground, what has to happen in order for it to grow into a plant or flower?  What does the plant need?  <water, sunlight, room to grow>
Explain:  When we plant the seeds, we see to it that our plant has these things.  And we believe that if we give our seed these things, then it will grow. We have FAITH.
Explain:  Jesus had been telling a lot of people about a new way of thinking.  The things He had to say about eternal life and eating His Body sounded really strange to the people who were listening.  It didn’t seem to make much sense.  Many people left Him.
Ask:  Why do you think some people stayed?  < the children will have several answers - lead them to...”they believed in Him”>  Do you think that all the people who stayed understood Jesus’ message?  <No>  But they stayed anyway and kept on trying.
Explain:  God gives us the gift of FAITH so that we can believe in Jesus.  We have to take the seeds of information that Jesus gave us and take care of them so that they can grow.
//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

First Reading
A prepared child comes to takes the first reading or second reading..
The first reading is from the book of Joshua in the Old Testament, (Joshua 24:1-2, 15-17, 18) Joshua is another one of the early prophets. Do you remember any of the other prophets we have heard about in the last few weeks?  <Elijah, Moses> Today we read about Joshua telling the people of Israel that they need to choose which god to worship.  In those days, most people did not believe in the one true God that we believe in - they believed in many other gods.  Joshua told them that they would have to choose.

Ask:  Do you remember one of the Commandments that tells about children and parents?  <#4 - Honor thy father and thy mother>.  Who can tell me something about the Commandments?  <there were 10 of them, God gave them to Moses on the mountain, they are listed in the Old Testament>.

The first reading today is taken from the letter of . (Joshua 24:1-2, 16-17)  , Joshua 24:1-2,16-17International Children’s Bible (ICB)

24 Then all the tribes of Israel met together at Shechem. Joshua called them all together there. Then he called the elders, heads of families, judges and officers of Israel. These men stood before God.
Then Joshua spoke to all the people. He said, “Here’s what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you: ‘A long time ago your ancestors lived on the other side of the Euphrates River. I am talking about men like Terah, the father of Abraham and Nahor. They worshiped other gods. 15 But maybe you don’t want to serve the Lord. You must choose for yourselves today. You must decide whom you will serve. You may serve the gods that your people worshiped when they lived on the other side of the Euphrates River.
16 Then the people answered, “No! We will never stop following the Lord. We will never serve other gods! 17 We know it was the Lord our God who brought our people out of Egypt. We were slaves in that land. But the Lord did great things for us there. He brought us out. He protected us while we traveled through other lands.
 This is the word of the Lord
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:

Gospel Reading:  The Gospel reading was written by John.(John 6:60-69)  This is the story when many people left Jesus because they did not understand what He was talking about.  Jesus spoke very strongly about what people needed to do to follow Him and it was too hard for many people.  Sometimes it is hard for us to understand too.  Pretend you are on the mountain listening to Jesus hearing everything He was saying about bread and eternal life.  Maybe you are hungry and wish He would just give you a little more bread like He did the other day.  Think how hard it must have been for His Apostles to stay with Him when they did not understand.

We are going to do something that everyone does in the big church Lord, let your Word be in my mind <make cross on forehead>, on my lips <make cross on lips>, and in my heart <make cross on John 6:60-69International Children’s Bible (ICB)

The Words of Eternal Life

60 The followers of Jesus heard this. Many of them said, “This teaching is hard. Who can accept it?”
61 Jesus knew that his followers were complaining about this. So he said, “Does this teaching bother you? 62 Then will it also bother you to see the Son of Man going back to the place where he came from? 63 It is not the flesh that gives a person life. It is the spirit that gives life. The words I told you are spirit, and so they give life. 64 But some of you don’t believe.” (Jesus knew who did not believe. He knew this from the beginning. And he knew who would turn against him.) 65 Jesus said, “That is the reason I said, ‘If the Father does not let a person come to me, then he cannot come.’”
66 After Jesus said this, many of his followers left him. They stopped following him.
67 Jesus asked the 12 followers, “Do you want to leave, too?”
68 Simon Peter answered Jesus, “Lord, who would we go to? You have the words that give eternal life. 69 We believe in you. We know that you are the Holy One from God.”
