Ask: Does anyone remember the theme for last week?  <The Epiphany of our Lord Jesus, three wise men from the Orient came to visit Him>

Welcome; Today we hear how Jesus named Simon, Peter, which means “rock”. Names are very important – we all have one and God knows all of us by our name. How do you know when God calls you?  <discuss>  It is different for everyone but some things are similar. Usually, it is something that you know is a good thing to do.  Often you think someone else should do it.  When you are in a situation and you have a feeling that you really should do something specific that is good, sometimes that is God on the phone!

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?
AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is from the first Old Testament book of Samuel. (1 Samuel 3:4-10, 19)  In this reading, Samuel is a young boy and he is sleeping.  Listen to the story about how God called Samuel and decide what you would think if God called you in the way God called Samuel.
A prepared child/children come and take the first reading or second reading.

1 Samuel 3:4-10,
Samuel was sleeping in the temple of the LORD
where the ark of God was.
The LORD called to Samuel, who answered, "Here I am."
Samuel ran to Eli and said, "Here I am. You called me."
"I did not call you, " Eli said. "Go back to sleep."
So he went back to sleep.
Again the LORD called Samuel, who rose and went to Eli.
"Here I am, " he said. "You called me."
But Eli answered, "I did not call you, my son. Go back to sleep."
At that time Samuel was not familiar with the LORD,
because the LORD had not revealed anything to him as yet.
The LORD called Samuel again, for the third time.
Getting up and going to Eli, he said, "Here I am. You called me."
Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the youth.
So he said to Samuel, "Go to sleep, and if you are called, reply,
Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening."
When Samuel went to sleep in his place,
the LORD came and revealed his presence,
calling out as before, "Samuel, Samuel!"
Samuel answered, "Speak, for your servant is listening."
Samuel grew up, and the LORD was with him,
not permitting any word of his to be without effect.

This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask: How do you think you would feel if God called you in the way that God called Samuel?  <discuss>  Do you think you would be able to give God the same answer that Samuel gave him?

Say:  God calls us all the time.  Many times we say NO to God when we are tired or don’t feel good.

Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:

Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.!...>3x.

Introduce the Gospel
Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of the Apostle John. John tells of the time that he was called by God to be Jesus’ follower.  Listen to this story and decide if you would act the way John did.
Now we will stand to get ready to hear the Gospel
..with Alleluia!! – OR
Welcome the Gospel through a song
Chorus:
Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
Yelele Yelele, Hallelujah!

Moto Moto, Hallelujah
Moto Moto, Hallelujah
Moto Moto, Hallelujah
Yelele Yelele, Hallelujah!

Silently say:” Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord

John 1:35-42 (GNT)

The First Disciples of Jesus

35 The next day John was standing there again with two of his disciples, 36 when he saw Jesus walking by. “There is the Lamb of God!” he said.
37 The two disciples heard him say this and went with Jesus. 38 Jesus turned, saw them following him, and asked, “What are you looking for?”
They answered, “Where do you live, Rabbi?” (This word means “Teacher.”)
39 “Come and see,” he answered. (It was then about four o'clock in the afternoon.) So they went with him and saw where he lived, and spent the rest of that day with him.
40 One of them was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 At once he found his brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah.” (This word means “Christ.”) 42 Then he took Simon to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, “Your name is Simon son of John, but you will be called Cephas.” (This is the same as Peter and means “a rock.”)

The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the…
Gospel reflection:

Ask: Do you think it is a normal thing for John to act the way he did?  <not really>  Usually we don’t see someone, leave our homes, and go with him.  Jesus’ apostles heard and saw something that we can’t understand – but it turned out to be a really good thing!  Do you remember when and why you decided to follow Jesus? <discuss>

Say:  For many of you, you follow Jesus because your parents share God’s call with you.

Memory Verse: “John 1:42 (…..but you will be called Cephas.” (This is the same as Peter and means “a rock.”)

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting. Amen.
