Children’s Liturgy

St. Mbaaga Tuzinde Catholic Church Kiwatule

Fifteen Sunday in Ordinary Time  (Year B)
Sunday 15th July 2018
Preparing the worship space
Colour: Green
Theme: Suitcase.

Welcome: Today we hear how Jesus sent his disciples out to spread his word, but even though they had to travel far and wide, Jesus told them not to take any of their belongings with them. Let’s think a bit more about this…

Ask: What was last week’s theme? <Faith.” > Jesus was teaching with great wisdom, but the people found it hard to believe in Him....

                  ==== 7:00 - 7:03 ===
Entrance Song
Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me bring your love;
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord;
And where there’s doubt, true faith in you:

Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved, as to love with all my soul. ‘

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope;

where there is darkness, only light;
and where there’s sadness, ever

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
 //R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
          -strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God…
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.

May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
The first reading today is from the Old Testament, from the book of Amos (Amos 7:10-15).  It tells the story of a man named Amos who listened to God and did what God told him to do.  Amos was just an ordinary farmer but God chose him to tell some important people about things that would happen to the Israelites...
A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Amos 7:10-15 (GNT)
Amos and Amaziah
10Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, then sent a report to King Jeroboam of Israel: “Amos is plotting against you among the people. His speeches will destroy the country. 11 This is what he says: ‘Jeroboam will die in battle, and the people of Israel will be taken away from their land into exile.’” 12 Amaziah then said to Amos, “That's enough, prophet! Go on back to Judah and do your preaching there. Let them pay you for it. 13 Don't prophesy here at Bethel any more. This is the king's place of worship, the national temple.”
14 Amos answered, “I am not the kind of prophet who prophesies for pay. I am a herdsman, and I take care of fig trees. 15 But the Lord took me from my work as a shepherd and ordered me to come and prophesy to his people Israel.

 This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What did God ask Amos to do?  <leave his farm and flocks to preach to the people of Israel>  Why do you think that the king of Israel didn’t want Amos talking to his people?  <because he didn’t want to hear the message>
Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< Lord, show us your mercy and love, and grant us your salvation.!> x3

Introducing the Gospel

Say: Today’s Gospel reading was written by St. Mark (Mark 6:7-13).  St. Mark tells us how Jesus sent his Apostles out two by two to spread the news about God.  He even talks about how to pack lightly so that they can concentrate on the message and not on themselves and their needs

...with Alleluia!! –
We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!

CHORUS: (‘Halle, halle, halle’ (Caribbean))
Halle, halle, halle, lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

 The leader reading the gospel, silently says: Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark.
Glory to You, O Lord

Mark 6:7-13  (NRSVCE)
He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. 10 He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. 11 If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. 13 They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:
Say: What is one thing that you think God would like for you to quit worrying about?
Remember our theme? The suitcase. They weren’t allowed to take anything with them except their staff, to help them walk on their journey. They couldn’t take a suitcase, or any food, or any money. Not even a change of clothes!
Memory Verse: Mark 6:12
12 So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent.

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

====  7:24 - 7:26 ====
