Sunday 28th October. 2018
Preparing the worship space
Colour: Green
Theme: Bartimaeus
Welcome:
Today we hear about how Jesus helped a man called Bartimaeus to see again. Sometimes we see things that are not fair or right, but it can be a lot harder not to see them at all. We praise God, we see.
Ask: Last week you must have heard about? < the number 1” > (it stood for what we need to do to be what God wants for us).

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament, the book of Jeremiah. (Jer 31: 7 -9)  In this reading, the Lord tells how much he loves his people.  Listen and think about how it makes you feel to hear how the Lord feels about us!

A prepared child/children come and take the reading.
First reading.
Jeremiah 31:7-9 (GNT)

7 The Lord says,

“Sing with joy for Israel,
    the greatest of the nations.
Sing your song of praise,
    ‘The Lord has saved his[a] people;
he has rescued all who are left.’
8 I will bring them from the north
and gather them from the ends of the earth.
The blind and the lame will come with them,
pregnant women and those about to give birth.
They will come back a great nation.
9 My people will return weeping,
praying as I lead them back.
I will guide them to streams of water,
on a smooth road where they will not stumble.
I am like a father to Israel,
and Ephraim is my oldest son.”
This is the word of the Lord”
All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: How does it make you feel?  <Special> We are God’s special creations, each and every one of us.

Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy....> x3

Introducing the Gospel
Say: Next we’ll have the Gospel reading.  The Gospel selection today is from the book of Mark. (Mark 10:46-52).  Today’s Gospel tells a story about a blind man named Bartimaeus.  Bartimaeus trusted Jesus so much!  Jesus helped him to see again because he placed his trust in Jesus.

...with Alleluia!! –
everyone stands and sings the acclamation together. Suggestions include:!!

CHORUS: (‘Halle, halle, halle’ (Caribbean))
Halle, halle, halle, lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark.
Glory to You, O Lord

Mark 10:46-52 (GNT)

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
46 They came to Jericho, and as Jesus was leaving with his disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus son of Timaeus was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!”
48 Many of the people scolded him and told him to be quiet. But he shouted even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called the blind man. “Cheer up!” they said. “Get up, he is calling you.”
50 So he threw off his cloak, jumped up, and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
“Teacher,” the blind man answered, “I want to see again.”
52 “Go,” Jesus told him, “your faith has made you well.”
At once he was able to see and followed Jesus on the road.
 “The Gospel of the Lord”

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:
Ask: What do you think Bartimaeus did next?   How do you think he felt?

Memory Verse: Mark 10:52
52 “Go,” Jesus told him, “your faith has made you well.” At once he was able to see and followed Jesus on the road.

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

====  7:24 - 7:26 ====
