Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our
sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to
do
-strike
the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God…
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.
You were sent to heal the contrite of
heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy
You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy
You are seated at the right hand of
the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?
AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old
Testament, the book of Wisdom. (Wisdom 7:7-11)
Does anybody know what the word WISDOM
means? <knowledge, being able to understand> This reading compares wisdom
to treasure. Let’s see if we can
understand what that might mean.
A prepared child/children come and take the reading.
First reading.
Wisdom
7:7-11
Solomon
Declares His Love for Wisdom
7 Realizing that I
was only human, I prayed and was given understanding. The spirit of Wisdom came
to me. 8 I regarded her more highly than
any throne or crown. Wealth was nothing compared to her. 9 Precious jewels
could not equal her worth; beside Wisdom all the gold in the world is a handful
of sand, and silver is nothing more than clay. 10 I valued her
more than health and good looks. Hers is a brightness that never grows dim, and
I preferred it to any other light.
11 When Wisdom came
to me, all good things came with her. She brought me untold riches.
“This is the word of the Lord”
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask: How is wisdom like treasure? <everybody
wants it, people think you are important if you have it, it can make your life
better> Can you think of other
gifts God has given you that are like a treasure? <love,
family, friends, church, happiness>
Say: Let us now focus
on our responsorial Psalm:
< Fill us with your love,
O Lord, and we will sing for joy! ....>

Introducing
the Gospel
Say: The Gospel reading today is from the
book of Mark. (Mark 10:17-27). Mark
tells us a story about a rich young man who came to Jesus. He asked Jesus what he needed to do to get
into the kingdom of heaven. Let’s
pretend that we are the people around Jesus who are listening and learning and
hear what he tells this young man.
...with Alleluia!! –
everyone stands and sings the
acclamation together. Suggestions include:!!
CHORUS: (‘Halle, halle,
halle’ (Caribbean))
Halle, halle, halle, lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may
worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel”.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark.
Glory to You, O Lord
Mark 10:17-27 (GNT)
The Rich Man
17 As Jesus was
starting on his way again, a man ran up, knelt before him, and asked him, “Good
Teacher, what must I do to receive eternal life?”
18 “Why do you call
me good?” Jesus asked him. “No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the
commandments: ‘Do not commit murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do
not accuse anyone falsely; do not cheat; respect your father and your mother.’”
20 “Teacher,” the
man said, “ever since I was young, I have obeyed all these commandments.”
21 Jesus looked
straight at him with love and said, “You need only one thing. Go and sell all
you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven;
then come and follow me.” 22 When the man heard this, gloom
spread over his face, and he went away sad, because he was very rich.
23 Jesus looked
around at his disciples and said to them, “How hard it will be for rich people
to enter the Kingdom of God!”
24 The disciples
were shocked at these words, but Jesus went on to say, “My children, how hard
it is to enter the Kingdom of God! 25 It is much harder for a rich
person to enter the Kingdom of God than for a camel to go through the eye of a
needle.”
26 At this the
disciples were completely amazed and asked one another, “Who, then, can be
saved?”
27 Jesus looked
straight at them and answered, “This is impossible for human beings but not for
God; everything is possible for God.”
“The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord
Jesus Christ”
==== 7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but
according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the
suggestions below…
Gospel
reflection:
Ask: What did Jesus say? <He
told the young man to give away all his money> The young man went away very sad. Why do you think that was? Why do you think
that Jesus said that it was hard for rich people to get into heaven? <if
you are rich, you spend a lot of time taking care of your riches. God wants us to trust in him and give our
time and thought to him> Are
there other things in our lives (besides money) that take up our time and
thought and get in the way of trusting in God?
<being worried, being
angry, thinking a lot about ourselves)
Memory
Verse: Mark 10:27
…Jesus
answered, “This is impossible for human beings but not for God; everything is
possible for God.”..”
Let us stand up and we profess our
faith.
Profession of our faith
I
believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator
of heaven and earth:
And
in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
--bow
down--
Who
was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered
under Pontius Pilate;
was
crucified, died and was buried:
He
descended into hell:
The
third day he rose again from the dead:
He
ascended into heaven,
and
sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From
there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I
believe in the Holy Spirit:
the
holy catholic church:
the
communion of saints:
The
forgiveness of sins:
The
resurrection of the body:
And
the life everlasting.
Amen.
