Theme: A CRY FOR MERCY IN THE DESERT
ColourPurple

        ==== 7:00 - 7:03 ====
Welcome; Today is the 1st Sunday of Lent.  The season of Lent officially began last Wednesday on Ash Wednesday.  Does anyone know what great feast comes at the end of Lent? <Easter!> What else does anyone know about Lent?(Prayer, fasting and alms giving) And we hear how Jesus spent 40 days in the desert. Deserts are dry lands where it is hard to grow food and people may get hungry and thirsty. Let’s cry for Mercy and think a bit more about that today.

Family Fast Day = Ash Wednesday.

Entrance Song
Prayer, Fasting, and Alms Giving,
Hands folded in prayer, hand on tummy, outstretched hands
We are meant, to repent.
Knock on heart 3 times
40 days of sacrifice,
One hand with 4 fingers up, one hand in shape of zero
Being super, extra nice,
Bend arms at elbows and swing back and forth
This is Lent. This is Lent.
Right hand out like holding a tray, then same with left.

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?
AMEN

*GLORIA*
In lent period, we shall not sing the Gloria
because it’s a time for us to reflect on the
quality of our life style.
Opening Prayer
God of life, your Son Jesus went out into the desert to talk to you in prayer. Help us to talk to you and get closer to you in this Lent, in our prayers and in our actions. Through Christ our Lord,... Amen.

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.
Say:   Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy. We hear Moses guiding the people of Israel on what to say when they bring their first offering to the Alter of God.

A prepared child/children come and take the first reading or second reading.
First Reading
Deuteronomy 26:4-10 (GNT)
The first harvest.
“The priest will take the basket from you and place it before the altar of the Lord your God. Then, in the Lord's presence you will recite these words: ‘My ancestor was a wandering Aramean, who took his family to Egypt to live. They were few in number when they went there, but they became a large and powerful nation. The Egyptians treated us harshly and forced us to work as slaves. Then we cried out for help to the Lord, the God of our ancestors. He heard us and saw our suffering, hardship, and misery. By his great power and strength he rescued us from Egypt. He worked miracles and wonders, and caused terrifying things to happen. He brought us here and gave us this rich and fertile land. 10 So now I bring to the Lord the first part of the harvest that he has given me.’
“Then set the basket down in the Lord's presence and worship there.

This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What did you hear? <Discus>

Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:

Be with me, Lord, when I am in trouble....>3x.

Introduce the Gospel

In the Gospel today, we hear about a time when Jesus lived in the desert before fulfilling the rest of God’s promise to us, the promise of new life after death.

Now we will stand to get ready to hear the Gospel
In lent period, we shall not sing the hallelujah,
because it’s a time for us to reflect on the
quality of our life style. But another song without an hallelujah can be sang

Silently the leader says:” Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord

Luke 4:1-13 (GNT)

The Temptation of Jesus
4 Jesus returned from the Jordan full of the Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit into the desert, 2 where he was tempted by the Devil for forty days. In all that time he ate nothing, so that he was hungry when it was over.

3 The Devil said to him, “If you are God's Son, order this stone to turn into bread.”

4 But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Human beings cannot live on bread alone.’”
5 Then the Devil took him up and showed him in a second all the kingdoms of the world. 6 “I will give you all this power and all this wealth,” the Devil told him. “It has all been handed over to me, and I can give it to anyone I choose. 7 All this will be yours, then, if you worship me.”

8 Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!’”

9 Then the Devil took him to Jerusalem and set him on the highest point of the Temple, and said to him, “If you are God's Son, throw yourself down from here. 10 For the scripture says, ‘God will order his angels to take good care of you.’ 11 It also says, ‘They will hold you up with their hands so that not even your feet will be hurt on the stones.’”
12 But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

13 When the Devil finished tempting Jesus in every way, he left him for a while.

The Gospel of the Lord”
All say; “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the…
Gospel reflection:

Ask: What happened?  <discuss>  How did God keep His covenant with us? <Jesus became one of us and died and rose for us>

Memory Verse: “Mark 1:15 (….. “ Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!’”!”...”)

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting. Amen.
