Penitential Rite

Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,

and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

Confession of our sins

I confess to the Almighty God,

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have greatly sinned

in my thoughts and in my words

in what I have done and In what I have failed to do

-strike the breast 3 times as you say-

through my fault

through my fault

through my most grievous fault

THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin

all the Angels and Saints

and you, my brothers and sisters

to pray for me to the Lord our God…

Have Mercy on us oh Lord

For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy

And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.

Lord have Mercy

Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners

Christ have mercy

Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.

Lord have mercy.

Lord have mercy.

Liturgy of the Word

Introduce the first reading.

B: In this reading, Moses is talking to the people of Israel.  They are tired of wandering in the desert. He reminds them how it was in Egypt.

A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16 (NRSVCE)

Moses reminds the people of Israel!

Remember the long way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commandments. 3 He humbled you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna, with which neither you nor your ancestors were acquainted, in order to make you understand that one does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

14 then do not exalt yourself, forgetting the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, 15 who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, an arid wasteland with poisonous[a] snakes and scorpions. He made water flow for you from flint rock, 16 and fed you in the wilderness with manna that your ancestors did not know, to humble you and to test you, and in the end to do you good.

This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What did Moses say?  <that God gave you manna to eat when you were hungry, that He led you safely through the desert, that He gave you water out of a rock!>  Wow!!  Moses also told why God did all this.  Did you hear why?  <so that we would depend on God and trust Him only.>>

Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:

< Praise the Lord, Jerusalem!> 3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say: Today’s Gospel reading is from the New Testament book of John.  This is when Jesus told the people that they had to eat his flesh in order to live forever.  Do you think the crowd understood?. Think how close you are to God in that moment!  Pretend you are a person in the crowd who came to listen to Jesus.  See if you can understand what he was saying about his body and blood.

...with Alleluia!! –

We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!

YELELE YELELE HALLELUIAH. [G]

Chorus:   Halleluiah, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.

1.   Eyende mbele, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.

2.   Moto, moto, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,

And with your Spirit.

A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John.

Glory to You, O Lord

John 6:51-58 (NRSVCE)

Only Son of God sent on Earth.

51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; 55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. 56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever.”.

The Gospel of the Lord”

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====

(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:

If you were a person in the crowd, what would you think? <discuss> We like to be very close to the person we love, Jesus said that we would be one with Him and He would be one with us.  How does that make you feel?  Can you get any closer physically? <Yes, by eating the Eucharistic bread everyday>

Memory Verse: John 6:56

56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.....

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

         --bow down--

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

was crucified, died and was buried:

He descended into hell:

The third day he rose again from the dead:

He ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Spirit:

the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting.

Amen.

====  7:24 - 7:26 ====
