Entrance Song

Little Guiding Light of Mine

This little guiding light of mine
  I'm gonna let it shine
This little guiding light of mine
  I'm gonna let it shine
This little guiding light of mine
  I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Hide it under a bushel, no
  I'm gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bushel, no
  I'm gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bushel, no
  I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Ask: Does anyone remember the theme for last week?  < Beatitudes “Sermon on a Mount”> We talked about God’s love—what God values most and how he wants us to act

WelcomeJesus tells us today that if we do what is good and right, others will see that we believe and will praise God. We can be an example for others, like a light shining to show the way. Let’s think about that light as we listen to the readings.

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?
AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of the Isaiah. In this reading, Isaiah explains how to shine your light for everyone to see.
A prepared child/children come and take the first reading or second reading.
First Reading; Isaiah 58:7-10 (GNT)

7 Share your food with the hungry and open your homes to the homeless poor. Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear, and do not refuse to help your own relatives.

8 “Then my favor will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; my presence will protect you on every side. 9 When you pray, I will answer you. When you call to me, I will respond.

“If you put an end to oppression, to every gesture of contempt, and to every evil word; 10 if you give food to the hungry and satisfy those who are in need, then the darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noon.

This is the word of the Lord”

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask:  What is Isaiah saying?  <Isaiah tells us how to act—share food, give clothes, don’t turn away from relatives>.J
Ask:  Do you think its easy to share?  Why or why not?  <discuss>

Say: Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:

A light rises in the darkness for the upright.....>3x.

Introduce the Gospel

Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of St. Matthew. Jesus tells us about how we are lights.  At the time when He lived, most Jewish houses were small, with one large common room that was used for everything.  They typically used one lamp to light the whole room.  Listen to what He says and try to understand what He is telling us how we can be the light of the world...

Now we will stand to get ready to hear the Gospel
..with an Alleluia!! – OR
Welcome the Gospel through a songJ J
Chorus:
Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
Yelele Yelele, Hallelujah!

Moto Moto, Hallelujah
Moto Moto, Hallelujah
Moto Moto, Hallelujah
Yelele Yelele, Hallelujah!

Silently say: Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord
Matthew 5:13-16 (GNT)

Salt and Light

13 “You are like salt for the whole human race. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people trample on it.

14 “You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.

The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the…

Gospel reflection:

Ask: What happened?  <let the children retell what they heard>  What does he tell us to do?  <share our goodness because it will help others to love God>

Memory Verse: “Matthew 5:14 (“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid…..”)

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting. Amen.
