Theme: Treasure

WelcomeToday Jesus tells us some more about what the Kingdom of Heaven looks like. He talks about treasure. Let’s think about what we treasure today.

                  ==== 7:00 - 7:03 ===

Entrance Song

Seek first the kingdom of heaven

And all the rest will fall in line

Give God his due, and God will give back to you, Turn your water into wine.

Some men are money mad

Go about richly clad

Seeking the rainbow’s end

I tell you God He will surely ditch

All those among the rich

Who have no poor man friend

Some men are barely fed

Begging their crust of bread

From dawn to setting sun

I tell you God will give liberty

To those in poverty

A feast to everyone

Ask: What was last week’s theme? < “Wheat and weeds.”> < We leant not to let the unwanted behavior(Weeds), to take up our lives because on the last day, God will burn the people that refused to listen to Him and all with good behavior(Wheat) will go to Heaven”.>

//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,

And the love of God,

And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,

be with you all.

//R//  And with Your Spirit.

Liturgy of the Word

Introduce the first reading.

Today’s reading is about a king named Solomon.  Has anyone ever heard of him?  What can you tell me about Solomon?  <let the children discuss> Solomon was known as a very wise king.  He was very smart and very kind to people.  We also hear about a time when God offered Solomon anything that he wanted.  Listen closely and see if you can hear what Solomon asked for.

A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Kings 3:5, 7-12 (GNT)

5 That night the Lord appeared to him in a dream and asked him, “What would you like me to give you?” 7 O Lord God, you have let me succeed my father as king, even though I am very young and don't know how to rule. 8 Here I am among the people you have chosen to be your own, a people who are so many that they cannot be counted. 9 So give me the wisdom I need to rule your people with justice and to know the difference between good and evil. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?”

10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this, 11 and so he said to him, “Because you have asked for the wisdom to rule justly, instead of long life for yourself or riches or the death of your enemies, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you more wisdom and understanding than anyone has ever had before or will ever have again

This is the word of the Lord;

All say “Thanks be to God”.

AskDid you hear what Solomon asked for?  <Wisdom>  Why would he want that instead of gold or silver?  <with wisdom, he would know what to do when he was confused>  If we are wise, we know how to serve God and get all the things that we need.

Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:

Lord, I love your commands.…3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say: Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Matthew (Matt 13:44-46)  What would you do if you found a treasure in someone else’s yard?  What might you do to make sure that the treasure would be yours?  <discuss>  This is what today’s reading is about.  Jesus is teaching something with a story. Let’s pretend that we are some of the people who are listening to Jesus.  Let’s see if we can figure out what the treasure is that He is talking about.

....with Alleluia!! –

We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!

You are welcome Lord of Lords,

You are welcome King of Kings

You are welcome Lord of Host

You are welcome Prince of Peace..

<You are welcome here, Alle-lluia,

Alle..lluia Might God!!!>x 2

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,

And with your Spirit.

A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.

Glory to You, O Lord

Matthew 13:44-46 (GNT)

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

44 “The Kingdom of heaven is like this. A man happens to find a treasure hidden in a field. He covers it up again, and is so happy that he goes and sells everything he has, and then goes back and buys that field.

The Parable of the Pearl

45 “Also, the Kingdom of heaven is like this. A man is looking for fine pearls, 46 and when he finds one that is unusually fine, he goes and sells everything he has, and buys that pearl.

The Gospel of the Lord”

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====

(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:

Ask:  What is the treasure that Jesus is talking about?  <heaven>  What should we do to gain the treasure of heaven? <Is there something we can do?>  Does this mean that we can make a one-time decision and know that we will get into heaven?  <discuss>

Say:  We have to wake up every day and bring Jesus into our lives.  We need to live our lives thinking about heaven.  All of our actions together, day in or day out, affect whether or not we gain salvation.

Memory Verse: Mathew

“Matthew 13:44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone has found…..

Let us stand up and we profess our faith

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

         --bow down--

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

was crucified, died and was buried:

He descended into hell:

The third day he rose again from the dead:

He ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Spirit:

the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting.

Amen.
