WelcomeToday we hear about two sons who are both asked to help their father. Let’s think a bit about how we can help other people today. Let’s also think about how we listen to what God asks of us and how we can do what is asked.

Penitential Rite

Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

Confession of our sins

I confess to the Almighty God,

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have greatly sinned

in my thoughts and in my words

in what I have done and In what I have failed to do

-strike the breast 3 times as you say-

through my fault

through my fault

through my most grievous fault

THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin

all the Angels and Saints

and you, my brothers and sisters

to pray for me to the Lord our God…

Oh Lord Have Mercy

Have Mercy on us oh Lord

For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy

And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.

Lord have Mercy

Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners

Christ have mercy

Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.

Lord have mercy.3

Lord have mercy.

May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?  AMEN.

Liturgy of the Word

Introduction of the first reading.

Today’s first reading, God is talking with Ezekiel.  The people of Israel were complaining that God wasn’t fair to them.  He answered back in this reading that he is fair.  He talks about people living and dying.  Listen to the reading and see if you think that God really meant actual life and death or if you think he might mean something else..

A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Ezekiel 18:25-28 (GNT)

25 “But you say, ‘What the Lord does isn't right.’ Listen to me, you Israelites. Do you think my way of doing things isn't right? It is your way that isn't right. 26 When a righteous person stops doing good and starts doing evil and then dies, he dies because of the evil he has done.

27 When someone evil stops sinning and does what is right and good, he saves his life. 28 He realizes what he is doing and stops sinning, so he will certainly not die, but go on living.

This is the word of the Lord;

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What did you hear that tells about life or death?  <that if you do what God wants you to do, you will live and if you don’t you will die> Like when you look into your parent’s face after you do something wrong, what does that feel like?  <BAD> Imagine God sees those things people can’t see. Let’s insist on doing good, okay?

Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:

Remember your mercies, O Lord..…3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say: Today’s Gospel reading, Jesus was talking with some of the important people in the Jewish church.  He was trying to tell them about how to get to heaven.  Let us listen to another parable of a vineyard owner. This man sends two of his sons to work in his vineyard...

....with Alleluia!! –

We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!

Chorus:    Halleluiah, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.

1.    Eyende mbele, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.

 2.   Moto, moto, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts:

-The Lord be with You,

-And with your Spirit.

A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.

Glory to You, O Lord

Matthew 21:28-32 (GNT)

The Parable of the Two Sons

28 “Now, what do you think? There was once a man who had two sons. He went to the older one and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 ‘I don't want to,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. 30 Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. ‘Yes, sir,’ he answered, but he did not go. 31 Which one of the two did what his father wanted?”

“The older one,” they answered.

So Jesus said to them, “I tell you: the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the Kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John the Baptist came to you showing you the right path to take, and you would not believe him; but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. Even when you saw this, you did not later change your minds and believe him.

“The Gospel of the Lord”

Glory and Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====

(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and at children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:

Ask:  What happened?  <let the children retell what they heard>  Which son did what his father asked?  <the one who said NO at first and then went to do the work>

Say:  Jesus was trying to tell the important priests that even if they did all the right things in their church, the most important thing they needed to do was to LOVE.  God asks us to love each other.  That’s number one!  God told them that the regular people who made lots of mistakes would go to heaven sooner than the important priests would because they listened and changed their behavior.  They believed in what Jesus said and they shared his love!

Memory Verse: Mathew

“Matthew 21:29 “…. <‘I don't want to,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.>....

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

         --bow down--

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

was crucified, died and was buried:

He descended into hell:

The third day he rose again from the dead:

He ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Spirit:

the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting.

Amen.
