Entrance Song

He's got the whole world in His hands,

He's got the whole world in His hands,

He's got the whole world in His hands,

He's got the whole world in His hands.

He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,

He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,

He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,

He's got the whole world in His hands.

He's got the sun and the rain in His hands,

He's got the moon and the stars in His hands,

He's got the wind and the clouds in His hands,

He's got the whole world in His hands.

Ask: What was last week’s theme? <Question mark....”> We talked about how difficult it sometimes is to decide what is right and what is wrong.

Liturgy of the Word

Introduction of the first reading.

Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of the prophet Isaiah. In this reading, the prophet Isaiah tells a story like Jesus did. He tells about a friend of his and his vineyard. Pretend that you are hearing the prophet Isaiah for the first time.

A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Isaiah 5:1-7 (GNT)

The Song of the Vineyard

5 Listen while I sing you this song,

    a song of my friend and his vineyard:

My friend had a vineyard

    on a very fertile hill.

2 He dug the soil and cleared it of stones;

    he planted the finest vines.

He built a tower to guard them,

    dug a pit for treading the grapes.

He waited for the grapes to ripen,

    but every grape was sour.

3 So now my friend says, “You people who live in Jerusalem and Judah, judge between my vineyard and me. 4 Is there anything I failed to do for it? Then why did it produce sour grapes and not the good grapes I expected? 5 “Here is what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge around it, break down the wall that protects it, and let wild animals eat it and trample it down. 6 I will let it be overgrown with weeds. I will not trim the vines or hoe the ground; instead, I will let briers and thorns cover it. I will even forbid the clouds to let rain fall on it.”7 Israel is the vineyard of the Lord Almighty;

    the people of Judah are the vines he planted.

He expected them to do what was good,

    but instead they committed murder.

He expected them to do what was right,

    but their victims cried out for justice.

This is the word of the Lord;

All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: Did you hear what happened?  <let the children re-tell the story>  What do you think it means?  <that the Lord was not pleased with the behavior of the Jewish people> It sounds like he was thinking of a punishment for the people who were sinning against God.

Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:

The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel...…3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say: Today’s Gospel reading is from Matthew. In Matthew’s Gospel today, we hear Jesus tell another parable.  This one is about a man who owned a vineyard.  This man rented it out to some people.  Can anyone tell me what the word “RENT” means?  <that the people were to farm it and use it like it was their own BUT they had to pay the owner in order to use it> Listen to what happened to the vineyard and to the owner.  Think about what you think you might have done if you had been the owner....

....with Alleluia!! –

We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!

Chorus:    Halleluiah, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.

1.    Eyende mbele, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah.

 2.   Moto, moto, Halleluiah x3 Yelele yelele Halleluiah

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.

The Leader starts:

-The Lord be with You,

-And with your Spirit.

A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.

Glory to You, O Lord

Matthew 21:33-43 (GNT)

The Parable of the Tenants in the Vineyard

33 “Listen to another parable,” Jesus said. “There was once a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a hole for the wine press, and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to tenants and left home on a trip. 34 When the time came to gather the grapes, he sent his slaves to the tenants to receive his share of the harvest. 35 The tenants grabbed his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again the man sent other slaves, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. 37 Last of all he sent his son to them. ‘Surely they will respect my son,’ he said. 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the owner's son. Come on, let's kill him, and we will get his property!’ 39 So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

40 “Now, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” Jesus asked.

41 “He will certainly kill those evil men,” they answered, “and rent the vineyard out to other tenants, who will give him his share of the harvest at the right time.”

42 Jesus said to them, “Haven't you ever read what the Scriptures say?

‘The stone which the builders rejected as worthless.turned out to be the most important of all.

This was done by the Lord;

    what a wonderful sight it is!’

43 “And so I tell you,” added Jesus, “the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce the proper fruits.”

“The Gospel of the Lord”

All say “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”.

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====

(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and at children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:

Ask:  What happened? <let the children discuss> Jesus tells us that the kingdom of heaven (or eternal life) belongs to those who do God’s will.  If we want to be part of that kingdom, we need to behave the way God tells us to. The church can want to maintain her so called important things but if they are not what God LOVE we just need to change.

Memory Verse: Mathew

“Matthew 21:43 “…. < “And so I tell you,” added Jesus, “the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce the proper fruits.”.>....”

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

         --bow down--

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

was crucified, died and was buried:

He descended into hell:

The third day he rose again from the dead:

He ascended into heaven,

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:

I believe in the Holy Spirit:

the holy catholic church:

the communion of saints:

The forgiveness of sins:

The resurrection of the body:

And the life everlasting.

Amen.

====  7:24 - 7:26 ====
