Penitential Rite

Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

Confession of our sins

I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
          -strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God…

Oh Lord Have Mercy

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.3
Lord have mercy.
May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?  AMEN.

Liturgy of the Word

Introduction of the first reading.

Say:  Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of the prophet Isaiah. Many years before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah talked about preparing the way for the Lord. Listen to the words of Isaiah and try to think of what it might mean in your life........

A prepared child/children come and take the reading.

Isaiah 40:3-5(GNT) A part.

3 A voice cries out,

“Prepare in the wilderness a road for the Lord! Clear the way in the desert for our God! 4 Fill every valley; level every mountain. The hills will become a plain,
    and the rough country will be made smooth.
5 Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
    and all people will see it.
The Lord himself has promised this.”
This is the word of the Lord;
All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What does this reading mean to you?

< Discuss> how they might “flatten mountains” or “level rough roads” Tell them; by doing good things for others. That’s all God expects of us.

Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:
<
Lord, show us your mercy and love, and grant us your salvation.…> 3x

Introducing the Gospel

Say: Today’s Gospel reading comes from the book of Mark. During the time when Jesus was alive, most people were used to hearing the words of the prophet Isaiah. This reading in the New Testament begins with the words of Isaiah that you just heard. Then we hear about prophet John, known as the Baptist. John came to tell about someone who was coming. Listen to John’s words and see if you can understand who John is talking about.

...with Alleluia!! –

We sing while standing and welcome the gospel!!

Welcoming the Gospel;

Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord...
Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-llu, Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
Alle..lluia, Lets praise the Lord...
The leader reading the gospel, silently says: “Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel”.
The Leader starts:
-
The Lord be with You,
-And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
Glory to You, O Lord...

Mark 1:1-8 (GNT)
The Preaching of John the Baptist.
1 This is the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 It began as the prophet Isaiah had written:
“God said, ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you
    to open the way for you.’
3 Someone is shouting in the desert,
    ‘Get the road ready for the Lord;
    make a straight path for him to travel!’”

4 So John appeared in the desert, baptizing and preaching. “Turn away from your sins and be baptized,” he told the people, “and God will forgive your sins.” 5 Many people from the province of Judea and the city of Jerusalem went out to hear John. They confessed their sins, and he baptized them in the Jordan River.

6 John wore clothes made of camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. 7 He announced to the people, “The man who will come after me is much greater than I am. I am not good enough even to bend down and untie his sandals. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

The Gospel of the Lord”

All say “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”.

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====

(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and at children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:

Ask:  Do you know who John was talking about?  <Jesus> Does anyone remember how John was described in the Gospel reading?  <clothes of camel’s hair, leather strap around his waist, ate grasshoppers>  If you were a person in the crowd, do you think you would have figured out what he was talking about?  Do you even think you would have listened to such a man?  <maybe –OR-- maybe not>

Memory Verse:
“Matthew 1:8 “…. <“ I baptize you with water, but Jesus will baptize you with the Holy Spirit...”>...”x3

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.

Profession of our faith

I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

====  7:24 - 7:26 ====

Prayers of the Faithful . Now is the time to pray for our stuff :-) Intercessions.
