1. Did anybody notice anything different about the church today?  <advent wreath>
2. Do you know what is special about today?  <it is the first Sunday of Advent>
3. It is also the very first Sunday in our Church year, Year C.  Our church year always begins on the first Sunday of Advent.
Advent is a time of waiting.  What are we waiting for?  <Christ’s coming>

//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
//R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R//  And with Your Spirit.

NEWS TIME :-)

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God

Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.

Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.

May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting? AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading, Introduce the reading.

Our first reading is from the Old Testament from the Book of the prophet Jeremiah (Jer 33:14-16).  It repeats a promise that God made long ago, long before Jesus was born.  Let’s listen closely and see if you can hear what that promise was.

A prepared child comes and takes the first reading or second reading.

Jeremiah 33:14-16Good News Translation (GNT)

14 The Lord said, “The time is coming when I will fulfill the promise that I made to the people of Israel and Judah. 15 At that time I will choose as king a righteous descendant of David. That king will do what is right and just throughout the land. 16 The people of Judah and of Jerusalem will be rescued and will live in safety. The city will be called ‘The Lord Our Salvatfion.’
This is the word of the Lord
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Let us focus on our responsorial Psalm:

< To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 3x.
Introduce the Gospel
Explain; It comes from the book of Luke (Luke 21:25-28, 34-36) and tells about what Jesus told His friends about the end of the world.  Pretend that you are one of Jesus’ disciples and see if you can understand what He is telling you.
Let us welcome the Gospel:
..with Alleluia!! - OR
Welcome the Gospel through a song.
Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord,
Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lu Alle-lluia,
Lets praise the Lord,
Alle-luia, Lets Praise the Lord
Alle-luia, Lets Praise the Lord
Alle..lluia Lets praise the Lord!!!

Silently say: ”Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Lord be with You,
AND with your Spirit.
The Gospel Reading was written by Mark 10:17-27 (full reading Mark 10:17-27) International Children’s Bible (ICB)
Let Lord’s Word be in my mind <make a cross on forehead>, and on my lips <make a cross on lips>, and in my heart <make a cross on the left side of the chest>         OR
Glory to You Lord Jesus Christ.

Luke 21:25-28Good News Translation (GNT)

The Coming of the Son of Man

25 “There will be strange things happening to the sun, the moon, and the stars. On earth whole countries will be in despair, afraid of the roar of the sea and the raging tides.26 People will faint from fear as they wait for what is coming over the whole earth, for the powers in space will be driven from their courses. 27 Then the Son of Man will appear, coming in a cloud with great power and glory. 28 When these things begin to happen, stand up and raise your heads, because your salvation is near.”

Luke 21:34-36Good News Translation The Need to Watch

34 “Be careful not to let yourselves become occupied with too much feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life, or that Day may suddenly catch you 35 like a trap. For it will come upon all people everywhere on earth. 36 Be on watch and pray always that you will have the strength to go safely through all those things that will happen and to stand before the Son of Man.”
The Gospel of the Lord”
“Glory and praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ”
  ====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding.
Gospel reflection:
This can be a confusing reading for children because it is about the Second Coming rather than Jesus’ birth. Perhaps explain this briefly before discussing.

What do you remember from the reading today?
Jesus is talking about when he will come again. Can you remember what he said to his disciples?

Jesus says that he will come again with power and great glory. Do we know when Jesus will come again?

Even though we do not know the exact time when Jesus will come again, he says that we need to be ready. We have to wait and watch for him.

What’s the most exciting thing you’ve ever had to wait for? Was it the visit of a friend or family member?

Was it for a special treat? How did it feel while you were waiting? Did the time go quickly or slowly? What did you do while you were waiting? Allow the children to Indulge.

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
                  --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day, He rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the leaving and the
dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

Prayers of the Faithful
Now is the time to pray for our stuff :-)Intercessions.
You may want to ask the children to offer their own prayers or you can use the suggestions below.
As we wait for the coming of Jesus, we pray together:

Prayer 1. Let us pray for world leaders: that they may really listen to their people and act well on their needs accordingly, as we wait for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We pray to the Lord...

Prayer 2. We pray for our churches: that they may continue to follow the example of Jesus and work to make the world a fairer place.  We pray to the Lord...

Prayer 3.  We pray for our communities, families and friends: that we may treat others, as we would wish to be treated and always be ready to welcome Jesus into our lives. We pray to the Lord..

Prayer 4.  Loving God, may your love be with us always and bring peace and joy to all your people around the world, and we thank you so much for having given our country Uganda to host the holy Father, Pope Francis. We pray to the Lord...

====  7:26 - 7:28 ====

Silently, each one tell God your petition.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
One God, for ever and ever.
