Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation
You were sent to heal the contrite of heart

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading
(Isa 66:10–14c)  Does anyone remember who Isaiah was?  < a prophet>  Old Testament or New?  <Old> In this reading from the book of Isaiah, he speaks about the city of Jerusalem.  Jerusalem is a city but it represents the Jews, the people of God.  Let’s hear what Isaiah tells us about the people of God..
Now give to the child to start reading the first reading below.

Today’s first reading is from the old Testament book of Isaiah 66:10-14 (NRSVCE)

10 Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her;
rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her—
11 that you may nurse and be satisfied
    from her consoling breast;
that you may drink deeply with delight
    from her glorious bosom.
12 For thus says the Lord:
I will extend prosperity to her like a river, and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing stream;
and you shall nurse and be carried on her arm, and dandled on her knees.
13 As a mother comforts her child,
    so I will comfort you;
    you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
The Reign and Indignation of God
14 You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice; your bodies[a] shall flourish like the grass;
and it shall be known that the hand of the Lord is with his servants, and his indignation is against his enemies.

This is the word of the Lord,

Responsorial Psalm

Cry out with joy to God all the earth.

Introducing the Gospel

Today’s Gospel, St. Luke tells us about how Jesus sent his followers out to tell the rest of the world about Him. In this reading, he gives them instructions about what to do.  Since we too are followers of Jesus, he is sending us out to tell people about him, too.
..with Alleluia!! -,
Welcoming the Gospel

You are welcome Lord of Lords,

You are welcome King of Kings

You are welcome Lord of Hosts

You are welcome Prince of Peace..

You are welcome here, Alle-lluia,

Luke 10:1-9 (ICB)

Jesus Sends the 72 Men

10 After this, the Lord chose 72[a] others. He sent them out in pairs. He sent them ahead of him into every town and place where he planned to go. He said to them, “There are a great many people to harvest. But there are only a few workers to harvest them. God owns the harvest. Pray to God that he will send more workers to help gather his harvest. You can go now. But listen! I am sending you, and you will be like sheep among wolves. Don’t carry a purse, a bag, or sandals. Don’t stop to talk with people on the road. Before you go into a house, say, ‘Peace be with this house.’ If a peaceful man lives there, your blessing of peace will stay with him. If the man is not peaceful, then your blessing of peace will come back to you. Stay in the same house. Eat and drink what the people there give you. A worker should be given his pay. Don’t move from house to house. If you go into a town and the people welcome you, eat what they give you. Heal the sick who live there. Tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is soon coming to you!

“The Gospel of the Lord”,

 “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”
(*)Tell an interesting story according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the Gospel reflection:

Gospel Reflection.

Ask: So what did you hear Jesus say?  <discuss>  Jesus knew that it was very important for his message to go out to all the world.  Do you think it is still important? <yes>  Do you think that he wants all of us to travel from town to town?

Say: We are all called to be part of spreading Jesus’ message about peace and love.  Some of us will be asked to teach others- some of us will be called to travel with his message.  Some of us will be asked to stay at home and keep his peace alive in our own hearts and the hearts around us.  All of us are called to share and spread the peace and love of God in some way.  We need to be ready to follow Jesus and go where he needs us to go.

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to do the right thing in the coming week.

Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
And the third day He rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven,
and seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He shall come again to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

Liturgy of the Word
First Reading
This reading, tells about the time when the prophet Elijah called someone else to join him.  God told Elijah who he should ask to join him.  Let’s listen closely to hear what happened.
Now give to the child to start reading the first reading below.

Today’s first reading is from the old Testament book of 1 Kings 19:16b,19-21
1 Kings 19:16
16 Then pour oil on Jehu son of Nimshi to make him king over Israel. Next, pour oil on Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah. He will be a prophet in your place.

Elisha Becomes a Prophet.
19 So Elijah left there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing a field with a team of oxen. There were 11 teams ahead of him. Elisha was plowing with the twelfth team of oxen. Elijah came up to Elisha. Elijah took off his coat and put it on Elisha. 20 Then Elisha left his oxen and ran to follow Elijah. Elisha said, “Let me kiss my father and my mother good-bye. Then I will go with you.”

Elijah answered, “That is fine. Go back. I won’t stop you.”

21 So Elisha went back. He took his pair of oxen and killed them. He used the wooden yoke for the fire. Then he cooked the meat and gave it to the people. And they ate it. Then Elisha went and followed Elijah and became his helper.

This is the word of the Lord,

Responsorial Psalm
You are my inheritance, O Lord.

Luke 9:57-62 (ICB)

Following Jesus

57 They were all going along the road. Someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you any place you go.”
58 Jesus answered, “The foxes have holes to live in. The birds have nests to live in. But the Son of Man has no place to rest his head.”
59 Jesus said to another man, “Follow me!”
But the man said, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60 But Jesus said to him, “Let the people who are dead bury their own dead! You must go and tell about the kingdom of God.”
61 Another man said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me go and say good-bye to my family.”
62 Jesus said, “Anyone who begins to plow a field but keeps looking back is of no use in the kingdom of God.”

 “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

Gospel Reflection.

Ask:  What do you think Jesus is trying to tell us?  <discuss>  Did he sound like He really wanted people to come with Him?  Or did He sound like He was discouraging them?
When we decide to follow Jesus, we need to remember that following His command of love is the most important thing for us to do- more important than anything else.  He didn’t mean that we could or should neglect our responsibilities at home, but for us to remember that following His command is the most important thing for us to always put first in our lives. In other words,
JUST DO IT!

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to do the right thing in the coming week.
