Welcome: Today is the First Sunday of
Advent – a special time when we get ready
for the coming of Jesus. Jesus asks us all to keep watch for Him so that we
will be ready when He comes. Today we shall notice the change in colour, which
one do you think it is? Purple.
And today’s theme <hold up
the theme> is a heart. What does a heart make you think of? <LOVE!> Our hearts are in the center
of our bodies. We have to have hearts to live. We talk about our hearts
like they hold important emotions (like love). We want the love of Jesus
in our hearts.

Introduction of the
first reading.
Say: Today’s first reading is
from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthian people. In this reading, St
Paul talks about how grateful he is that Jesus came to earth to be with us. Pretend
that you are a child who lived in the city of Corinth.......
A prepared child/children come and take the
reading.

3 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
give you grace and peace.

4 I always give thanks to my God for you because
of the grace he has given you through Christ Jesus. 5 For in union with Christ

The message about Christ has become so firmly established in you 7 that you
have not failed to receive a single blessing, as you wait for our Lord Jesus
Christ to be revealed. 8 He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you

Introducing the
Gospel
Say: Today’s
Gospel reading comes from the New Testament book of Mark. In this reading,
Jesus is talking to his disciples. He
compares his coming back to earth with another situation. He compares it to a man leaving his house and
putting his servants in charge who also doesn’t tell them when he is coming
back. Listen to Jesus’ words as if you
were one of his disciples. What do you
think Jesus trying to tell the disciples?

Ask: What was Jesus trying to tell his disciples? – to be ready for His return- What can we
do to get ready for Jesus to be in our lives?

These are things that we want to try to do during Advent. We want to try to be closer to God by being
the best people we know how to be.
