Children’s Liturgy

St. Mbaaga Tuzinde Catholic Church Kiwatule

Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)
Sunday 4th November. 2018
Preparing the worship space
Colour: Green
Theme: A Neighbor
Welcome:
Today Jesus tells us that we must love our neighbour as ourselves. But what does this mean? Who is our neighbour and how do we show love for them? Let’s think a bit more about this today.
Ask: Last week you must have heard about? < Bartimaeus” > (it stood for a blind man that Jesus cured).
                  ==== 7:00 - 7:03 ===

Let there be love shared among us
Let there be love shared among us
Let there be love in our eyes
May now Your love sweep this nation.
Cause us oh Lord to arise
Give us a fresh understanding
Of brotherly love that is real,
Let there be love shared among us,
Let there be love

Let there be hope shared among us
Let there be hope in our eyes
May now Your hope sweep this nation.
Cause us oh Lord to arise
Give us a fresh understanding
Of brotherly love that is real,
Let there be hope shared among us,
Let there be hope.
//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
 //R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R// And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God…
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.

May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?
AMEN

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament, book of Deuteronomy 6:2-6. It tells us about the Commandments given to Moses. In this reading, Moses tells the Israelites about God’s laws. He tells them what will happen if they follow all of God’s Commandments.
A prepared child/children come and take the reading.
First reading.
Deuteronomy 6:2-6 (GNT)

2 As long as you live, you and your descendants are to honor the Lord your God and obey all his laws that I am giving you, so that you may live in that land a long time. 3 Listen to them, people of Israel, and obey them! Then all will go well with you, and you will become a mighty nation and live in that rich and fertile land, just as the Lord, the God of our ancestors, has promised.
4 “Israel, remember this! The Lord—and the Lord alone—is our God.[a] 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 Never forget these commands that I am giving you today.
This is the word of the Lord”
All say “Thanks be to God”.

Ask: What did you hear Moses tell the Israelites?  What do you think this might mean to us today?

Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< I love you, Lord, my strength....> x3

Introducing the Gospel
Say: The Gospel today is from the book of Mark 12:28-31. So Jesus spent a lot of his time trying to teach the religious leaders about the new ideas about faith.  Many of the religious leaders asked Jesus questions, trying to understand new ways of looking at the important ideas about God’s laws.
...with Alleluia!! –
everyone stands and sings the acclamation together. Suggestions include:!!

CHORUS: (‘Halle, halle, halle’ (Caribbean))
Halle, halle, halle, lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark.
Glory to You, O Lord

Mark 12:28-31 (GNT)

The Great Commandment
28 A teacher of the Law was there who heard the discussion. He saw that Jesus had given the Sadducees a good answer, so he came to him with a question: “Which commandment is the most important of all?”
29 Jesus replied, “The most important one is this: ‘Listen, Israel! The Lord our God is the only Lord.[a] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ 31 The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment more important than these two.”
 “The Gospel of the Lord”

“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…

Gospel reflection:
Ask: What did Jesus say was most important? <love> He spoke of two kinds of love, didn’t he?  Who are we supposed to love?  <God and everyone>  How did he say to love others?  <as much as we love ourselves> What do you think this tells us about loving ourselves?  <that is important to love ourselves, too> Do you think we can love others if we don’t love ourselves?
Explain:  So, #1 - love God with everything you have   and #2 - love everyone else as much as you love yourself.

Memory Verse: Mark 12:30-31
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength 31 The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment more important than these two.”

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

====  7:24 - 7:26 ====
