Children’s Liturgy

St. Mbaaga Tuzinde Catholic Church Kiwatule

Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)
Sunday 11th November. 2018
Preparing the worship space
Colour: Green
Theme: Giving/Sharing
Welcome:
Today we hear about a woman who did something very special. And we think about how we can share from what we have, no matter how little that is.
Ask: Last week you must have heard about? <A Neighbor > (Jesus said,<that the most important commandment is LOVE - to love God with everything you have and to love others as much as we love ourselves>..)
                  ==== 7:00 - 7:03 ===

Let there be love shared among us
Let there be love shared among us
Let there be love in our eyes
May now Your love sweep this nation.
Cause us oh Lord to arise
Give us a fresh understanding
Of brotherly love that is real,
Let there be love shared among us,
Let there be love

Let there be hope shared among us
Let there be hope in our eyes
May now Your hope sweep this nation.
Cause us oh Lord to arise
Give us a fresh understanding
Of brotherly love that is real,
Let there be hope shared among us,
Let there be hope.
//V// In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
 //R// Amen.
//V// May The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
//R// And with Your Spirit.

Penitential Rite
Dear little children, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Confession of our sins
I confess to the Almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words
in what I have done and In what I have failed to do
-strike the breast 3 times as you say-
through my fault
through my fault
through my most grievous fault
THEREFORE I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin
all the Angels and Saints
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God…
Have Mercy on us oh Lord
For we have sinned against you.
Show us, Oh Lord, your mercy
And grant us your salvation.

You were sent to heal the contrite of heart.
Lord have Mercy
Lord have Mercy

You came to sinners
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

You are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us.
Lord have mercy.
Lord have mercy.

May the almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting?

Liturgy of the Word
Introduce the first reading.
Today’s first reading is from the Old Testament book of Kings. (1 Kings 17:10-16)
Today’s reading tells us about something that happened when Elijah asked a poor woman to share her bread with him.  Listen closely so you can hear what she did.
A prepared child/children come and take the reading.
First reading.
2 1 Kings 17:10-1 (GNT)

10 So Elijah went to Zarephath, and as he came to the town gate, he saw a widow gathering firewood. “Please bring me a drink of water,” he said to her. 11 And as she was going to get it, he called out, “And please bring me some bread, too.”

12 She answered, “By the living Lord your God I swear that I don't have any bread. All I have is a handful of flour in a bowl and a bit of olive oil in a jar. I came here to gather some firewood to take back home and prepare what little I have for my son and me. That will be our last meal, and then we will starve to death.”

13 “Don't worry,” Elijah said to her. “Go on and prepare your meal. But first make a small loaf from what you have and bring it to me, and then prepare the rest for you and your son. 14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The bowl will not run out of flour or the jar run out of oil before the day that I, the Lord, send rain.’”

15 The widow went and did as Elijah had told her, and all of them had enough food for many days. 16 As the Lord had promised through Elijah, the bowl did not run out of flour nor did the jar run out of oil.
This is the word of the Lord”
All say “Thanks be to God”.
Ask:  So what happened here?  What did the woman do?  <she shared everything she had with Elijah>  And then what happened?  <The she started to always have enough food after that>  Was this woman generous?  <yes>  Do you think it was easy for her to share this bread with Elijah?  No! Why not?
Say: Let us now focus on our responsorial Psalm:
< Praise the Lord, my soul!....> x3

Introducing the Gospel
Say: In the Gospel today, Mark 12:41-44 tells us what another widow did and what Jesus said about it.
...with Alleluia!! –
everyone stands and sings the acclamation together. Suggestions include:!!

CHORUS: (‘Halle, halle, halle’ (Caribbean))
Halle, halle, halle, lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Halle, halle, halle lu-u-jah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The leader reading the gospel, silently says: Cleanse our hearts and our lips almighty God, that we may worthily proclaim your Holy Gospel.
The Leader starts: The Lord be with You,
And with your Spirit.
A reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark.
Glory to You, O Lord

Mark 12:41-44 (GNT)

The Widow's Offering
She put in everything she possessed
41 As Jesus sat near the Temple treasury, he watched the people as they dropped in their money. Many rich men dropped in a lot of money; 42 then a poor widow came along and dropped in two little copper coins, worth about a penny. 43 He called his disciples together and said to them, “I tell you that this poor widow put more in the offering box than all the others. 44 For the others put in what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, put in all she had—she gave all she had to live on.”
 “The Gospel of the Lord”
“Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ”

====  7:19 - 7:24 ====
(*) Tell your prepared reflecting story to motivate the children, but according to the Gospel and children’s level of understanding like in the suggestions below…
Gospel reflection:
Ask: What happened here?   <there were many rich people giving a lot of money to the church and a widow who only put in a little money >  What did Jesus say have to say about this woman’s gift?  <that her gift was bigger because she had much less to give>   What did that mean?  <it means that it was harder for her, she was more generous, she gave up money that she needed>
Explain:  She had to trust that God would provide what she needed to live on. God wants us to be able to give a lot, too.  He wants SHARING to be more important than KEEPING.

Memory Verse: Mark 12:44
…“I tell you that this poor widow put more in the offering box than all the others.

Let us stand up and we profess our faith.
Profession of our faith
I believe in God the Father, Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:
         --bow down--
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
Suffered under Pontius Pilate;
was crucified, died and was buried:
He descended into hell:
The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Spirit:
the holy catholic church:
the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

====  7:24 - 7:26 ====
Prayers of the Faithful  Now is the time to pray for our stuff :-) Intercessions.
You may want to ask the children to offer their own prayers or you can use the suggestions here.
Leader: We are called to be generous and share what we have with each other, and so we pray together:

Prayer 1.
We pray for world leaders: that they may be generous and fair, so that all their people have enough to live free from poverty. We pray to the Lord...

Prayer 2.
We pray for all members of our global family: that we may see that all people have something important to give, no matter how small it seems at first.. We pray to the Lord...

Prayer 3.
We pray for our parish, families and friends: that we may be as generous as possible, and give of what we have, to share with others.
We pray to the Lord....

Prayer 4. We know that all people have something that they can give to share with others. Dear God, show us what we can give and help us to be generous as we share with others.…We pray to the Lord...

Silently, each one tells God your petition.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever. Amen
